Give us some details. You know, things like: make, model, year, engine, tranny, etc.

I'm sure given that kind of information you'll get some meaningful responses.

To quote advice from one of the xberts (thx larry)

First Open her up
Air Intake
Throttle Body
1.7 Roller rockers

Then
reprograme (if ur 98+)
Superchips 3715

Then Exhaust
Headers
Cat back exhaust

Then Burn it better
Coil (MSD, Accel)
Wires (8.5 MSD, Taylor)
Ignit Control (MSD 6a common)

Should be a start, Without getting into the details.

CannuckDakota - Good effort, but unfortunately that advice would not apply to all our motors - that would be why we need the info Modain mentioned for meaningful responses.
For example, 1.7 rockers and all your "burn it better" advice wouldn't apply to a 4.7, nor would the air intake be an important beginning step. Looks like you've been hanging on the v6 board.

on a 4.7 I would say the first step is getting
rid of the restrictive "Y" pipe in the exhaust system.
either with a hi-flow 'Y' into a single exhaust,
or running dual exhaust pipes from the cats to the back.

on any engine it is important to open the intake first. these trucks have halfway decent exhaust flow and good quality cat converters and mufflers so they flow ok from the factory. The most important first steps are in this order.....
cold air intake
bigger throttle body
1.7 rr or ho cam if ur a 4.7
msd or accel coil and cap and rotor
m1 manifold or ho manifold
and then...... exhaust work

if ur not gettin more air in, no sense in tryin to get it out when it isnt there.

someone calculated that the stock throtle body on a 4.7 has the equivalent of the airflow of a 600cfm carburator, on a 287 cu in engine that's plenty big.

my stock airbox air intake is right behind the headlight, appart from the truck beeing at a standstill, with any movement it become a 'cold air intake'.

removing the Y pipe woke up my engine in the 2000-3000 range (where it counts) a bigger throttle boby "might" make a difference but at higher rpms.

removing the heavy clutch fan and replacing it with a lighter flex fan or electric set-up
also makes a noticeable difference, -better throttle response.

Made some good points there though Mike - helped to clear up Joey's post that started with a bit of nonsense. While the ability to move more air is important, it's ridiculous to think that has to start with the intake. As 911mike points out, the place to start is wherever the bottleneck is. With the 4.7, the intake is efficient enough that it took K&N a long time to develop a CAI that would should a gain on a dyno. Looks like he doesn't know 4.7 is a coil on plug design either, so you couldn't even find a place to use "msd or accel coil and cap and rotor". And an HO manifold won't help a new 4.7 either - in fact, the HO motor runs the same manifold found on the regular 4.7 !

Showing once again, why we need the info modain requested for meaningful responses.

ummmm who the hell said we were talkin about a 4.7?? the guy didnt even tell us wat engine he has. and i know the 4.7 doesnt use a cap and rotor but i have a 5.9 so what im saying applies to that, the 5.2, and the 3.9. so if anyone doesnt know wat they are talkin about around here its you. and the clutch fan isnt a flex fan. it has a clutch and when that clutch is released (95% of the time) it uses up almost no engine power at all. and also, the 4.7s that came with the 65mm tb benefit greatly from the newer 68mm or even a 70mm. believe me i run mid 13s on a stock heads/cam truck and no weight reduction and i know plenty of guys running 11s and 12s so i know wat im talkin about.

Joey, why don't you just knock off the BS ? You said "on any engine" right at the beginning of your post; and that would include the 4.7 ! That we need more info for a meaningful discussion on this thread has been a contention of modain and myself from the start of this thread, did you miss that ? BTW, my truck came with one of those 65mm TBs (DC changed to 68mm in '01), and did not "benefit greatly" as you claim when I upgraded to a ported 68mm. Benefits were relatively minor. Anyone can claim they run a certain # in the quarter - you don't even say with wich motor though - are you making these claims for a 4.7 ?

thank you Godawgs for clarifying which engine u have. i also have the r/t but its a 2002 model. they came with 250hp but if u got lucky and got a rare last edition its possible u may have the 300hp version but i dont know anyone who does have one of those. no replacement for displacement and out of all stock motors, the 5.9 has the most power potential but there have been 4.7s running in the 12s and once i heard of one in the 11s so they are also good motors and are worth putting $ into. anyways, for u to see the best improvements:
cold air kit
52mm f&b tb
1.7 roller rockers
accel coil, cap, rotor
msd or other good wires
b&g m1 computer flash
mopar m1 manifold

with all of these mods u should be around 300hp maybe more (if urs had 250 stock) and shouldnt lose any gas mileage. then u can do the exhaust work and if u want it to be any good u will have to get rid of everything including the cats and either get bigger cats or no cats at all. throwing gibson or jba headers on and leaving the stock cats wont help very much.

THANKS! just a little joke about the only eng worth modding. LOL I test drove a 4.7HO R/T and it felt really strong but i found a 2003 R/T 5.9 with 12000 miles on it, and had to drive 1200 miles to get it but worth every mile. THE 5.9 R/T TRUCK IS WHAT I HAD MY HEART SET ON, BEEN WANTING 1 SINCE 98 BUT COUDN'T AFFORD IT BUT NOW I HAVE MY TRUCK AND READY TO MAKE IT HAUL A$$ SO NOW YOU SEE WHY I MIGHT THINK THATS THE ONLY TRUCK WORTH MODDING. for you guys with 4.7s great eng, well all mopar engs are and hope they keep making more and more aftermarket mods for both. BUT IF YOUR @ A REDLIGHT SIDE BY SIDE WITH A BLACK R/T 5.9 BE VERY VERY CAUTIOUS!!! LOL!
