Message: I hope so. I figure that they may do it because the srt-10 is discontinued. With any luck it will just be a 1,000 or 2,000 dollar upgrade but they will probably make you buy some special package with a bunch of other crap for like 10,000 extra.

Message: Why are you going to put a 6.1L in a value based truck. Dakotas are meant for people who can't afford Rams.......I definately cannot right now.

Message: Because we would love a value based truck that ran 12s. Rams
weigh 1000+ pounds more and its hard to move that much
weight. I would buy either if they come out with one without
adding $10,000 for a motor that only costs $3,000 more.

Message: Speed is about money anyways. If you have the money for speed you have the money for a Ram. There was a 1970 something GMC truck that was doing 8.5 seconds quarter mile on YouTube. Crazy. Think about how heavy those are.......

Message: Chris G. - Speed is about more than $$$, its also about understanding how to make speed. Think about how much faster the truck in your example would be if it were lighter. Hotrodders have been putting powerful engines in lighter vehicles for a long time - because that's one of the best ways to make speed. This isn't about whether anyone could afford the heavier Ram, or not...

Message: Well then....why don't they have an SRT Dakota? They have a SRT-4 Neon which is cheaper. Whats the reason why they just have "might" skipped over the Dakota? The R/T was a joke. That was a pushoff until something bigger came. Yes, the Tacoma is more powerful than the Dakota now just like the new Tundra will be more powerful than the HEMI Ram. It's pretty sad to tout the name "HEMI" for a couple of years only to have some Japanese company rip you a new ass*ole.

Message: WITH THE SAME DAMN DISPLACEMENT! Obviously they know something we don't know. Why is Toyota wayyyy over Chrysler in sales? Toyota is about to be 1st in the world. The Tacoma is more powerful, more reliable and more "refined" than the new Dakota. My pick is the Tacoma. Even better...the Tundra.

Message: I've had 2 of the Toyota pickups myself (for a total of 15 years, very well acquainted with them); and neither one was more refined than the Dakota I now drive. The Dakota is a much more solid truck. I don't consider the Tacoma more powerful than my Dakota either - the Tacoma will never have better towing power without a v8. Looks like you haven't been paying attention to those of us who are trying to educate some of you guys that the best way to look at the power of a truck is to examine where it is making good power on a graph over many different rpm points. You seem to be making bogus claims based on peak numbers.

Message: NOT true.....for example...the Ford 300 straight six would outpull several V8's back in the day. Another example....you can get more power than our Dakotas have out of a SRT-4 Neon engine. I have saw some on the upwards of 300-450HP and matching torque. Don't say anything's impossible. I'm not saying that the OLDER Toyotas were more "refined" all im saying is that the newer ones are. They look better too.

Message: Chris G. - you are mistaken, and seem to be missing the point I made about looking at power on a graph. What you mean to say is that an SRT neon can be made to make more PEAK power than the Dakota; but that is fairly meaningless. The Dakota will be making much more torque at lower rpms where it is needed in a truck. For those of you who want to believe that it is the peak #s that really matter, I am tiring of your nonsense and therefore have a challenge for you - bring on one of these "more powerful" Neons or Tacomas and we'll have a towing competition with one of my trailers. I'll be a sport, and we can even use one of the lighter ones at around 3000 lbs. Then we'll see how these "more powerful" rigs does in a real world test of useful power. If you bring the Neon you speak of, you might want to bring along a ramp truck for your ride home...

Message: One other issue. The SRT Neons have a little help in the form of a turbo. Slap a turbo on my Dak, and I'll not only have more low and midrange torque, but HP numbers near double the SRT Neon's engine without mods, and more with. Apples and oranges.
Have to ask the question, though. If Toyota engineering is sooooo superior, why didn't they do this 4 years ago? You know, back when the 5.7 Hemi was brought into production and reset the performance bar, or even earlier for that matter? It's easy to study someone else's work and after 4 years, manage to come up with higher numbers to wave at everyone.
