Subject: Spark Plug Choices IP: Logged
Message: Looking for feedback on choice of spark plug. I've been running Champion OE resistor RC12LC4's with not problem in my 5.9L R/T. I noticed Champion now has a truck plug. Has anyone given these a try? What about their iridium version? Any gains?
Thanks in advance.

Message: The plugs you're using work fine, no need to change to anything else.
The truck plugs have been around for a while. I used them once, but notice any differance in performance or longevity. Doesn't seem to be any advantage there.
Iridium and platinum are use because they are denser metals that last longer. An iridium plug will last 60-70K miles. A platinum plug will last 40-60K miles. A standard plug will last 30-40K miles.
Another advantage to iridium is that the ground electrode can be made much thinner; called "fine wire". Supposedly, the thin electrode allows better kernal propogation. If you're searching for every last bit of HP, that might be important.
All my vehicles get standard Autolite plugs. Cheap, last plenty long enough, and easy to come by.

Message: I have used Champion Truck Plugs for years. I had a shop for over 40 years. Far as I'm concerned, the Truck Plugs are great. I run BW brass dist cap and rotor, 8MM silicon plug wires with volconized ends, The Champion Truck Plugs gaped 10 thousands over stock and a METAL HOUSING (never plastic) coil that is veriable spark and tops out at 30,000 volts. My V8 99 5.2L 4x4 CC and voyager V6 van idles very nice, respond and run great at all speeds. Over the years every customer that listened to me went this route and not one time did I ever get a complaint. I'm not telling you this to do as I do. I'm telling you WHAT I do. Do what you think is best for you.
