Subject: 4.7L aftermarket power adders? IP: Logged
Message: I have an '01 Dakota QC with a 4.7. I installed a K&N, but haven't been able to find any other aftermarket power adders (headers, power programmers, cams, true dual exhaust, superchargers, etc) or cosmetic engine parts (valve covers, hose kits, etc). If anyone knows where to find these kinds of parts please let me know.
Thanks

Message: Many have gone with Superchips as a power adder, some have gone with a custom PCM flash instead. I heard the Mike Leach flash was available for '01, originally it was just '00. Many have gone to the HO cams available at first from the Jeep 4.7 HO; considering other stock parts like that too ? KRC Performance has a couple higher levels for cams as well. Exhaust stuff is out there, from what I've heard you'll want to replace the y-pipe to see any real gains from that. There was a recent post about a turbo kit on ebay; there's lots of stuff out there (if not as much as for the other magnum 8's), I'm sure others will chime in. You can port the torque step out of your TB, or bigger TB's are available too.

Message: GS Motorsports out of California sells a true dual exhaust set up full mandrell bent 2.5in tube with x-pipe and dual mufflers made by Spin Tech Exhaust. Have the system on mine and it sounds incredible so long as you like it loud and proud (much louder than the flowmaster 40 series that was on the truck when i bought it). System really helps the top end power by getting rid of the stock y-pipe and one of the cats. It costs a little much and be prepared to have to tweak it a little to get it on a 4.7 but it is worth it when you hear it for the first time. Had to leave the x-pipe out of mine but i have a reg cab short bed yours being a quad cab you shouldnt have that problem. Also had to add two more hangers to the mufflers because of the added weight of two mufflers instead of one as the stock rubber hangers arent strong enough.
www.gsmotorsports.com check it out
Also heard of bassani making a better y-pipe for dakotas but again you have to tweak them to get them to go on a 4.7. Don't know about them though.

Message: Yep: Gibson, JBA, Flowtech, Hedman, and I think Hooker. All are shorties, not to sure if Hooker does or not a freind told me he saw some on Ebay but didnt know what 4.7L they went on (Dodge or Toyota).
I am going to give you a personal suggestion, get ceramic coated ones they may cost more but they wont rust (at least not as bad). They also help keep under-hood temps down. I have Gibson non ceramic coated ones (because i was too cheap when i bought them) on mine and the the collectors are already getting rusty after only 2 yrs. I can see now in another 2yrs or so i'm going to be getting another set to replace the rusted set on mine.

Message: Go to KRC and get a cam. The 200 is not bad but the 206 is supposed to be pretty nice. Port your throttle body from 66mm to 68. All it takes is a good airgrinder. Those two mods will get you way more power than ANY exhaust mod on a 4.7. You can also get a custom flash from KRC for $450 but I didnt get that because i didnt want to advance timing with nitrous.
Exhaust work doesnt seem to do much until you get above 200 rwhp. Do it if you like the sound but dont expect much.

Message: KRC Performance also sells supercharger kits, throttle bodies, powder coated valve covers, etc.
You will notice a decent pick up in power if you get rid of the stock y-pipe, but not if you only put a cat-back system on it. You probably won't notice any real gains with headers either unless you change the y-pipe.

Message: Thanks again for all the tips and info. I can't believe that KRC wants $4800 for a supercharger kit. I've seen them for other vehicles for almost half that. Actually everything for this engine seems to be substantially more expensive. Do any of you live near the Twin Cities (Minnesota)?

Message: Nope i am a virginia country boy and yes everything for this motor is substantially more expesive compared to old school magnum motors (360, 318) But i think it is worth it since i have beaten a couple of r/t dakotas with mine.
