Subject: 5.7 hemi dak IP: Logged
Message: i would really like to go all out my little 4.7 EC auto. lookin at super/turbochargers or blowers, i dont really want one.
So i was wonderin if the 5.7 has the same engine mounts as the 4.7 and if the 4spd auto on my dak would work with the hemi? and would the 355 rear end?

Message: It's a completly differant engine. Almost nothing matches. DC says you can't get the 5.7 in a Dakota because it doesn't fit between the frame rails.
You can do it if your fab skills are good enough. But it's not a straightforeward drop in.

Message: There's a guy on another board who did a Turbo 4.7 and went crazy. Eventually blew it up. It was a 4X4 too.
Then he did a 5.7 transplant. Says it wasn;t hard at all fitting it in there. Then he put a turbo on that.
I actually bought some used 4.7 pistons and rods from him that he decided not to use when he decided to do the 5.7 swap. :P
I haven't checked on his progress in a while. Last I saw he had scored another 2WD Dak. Wanted to put a 4.7 back into the 4X4 and put the Hemi into the 2WD.
He seemed to have lots of time to work on his Dak as he did quite a bit within one year on it.

Message: This would be an expensive and difficult swap. Not only will you need trans and engine mounts, but possibly a bigger radiator too. A new driveshaft and maybe suspension changes. You would need the wiring harness and all electronis like computer from the 5.7. I understand it is a drive by wire setup so you would need the gas pedal with it's sensor too. Prepare to reach in your pocket all the way to your socks for this one.

Message: I went to look on the progress from the guy who had done the 5.7 swap, but that OTHER Dodge truck website appears to be down.
I forgot what he did to get around the drive by wire. He may have swapped the throttle body or something.

Message: Yes, he seem to be doing well with the swap. Some of the problems have turned out to be insignificant as things hook up without problems. Still is the wiring headache and crossmembers. He is putting in a different axle in his 4X4 and taking out the old setup to create clearance for oil pan. Still a lot of work.

Message: OK cool. That website where he was posting his updates, is still down. It's a popular DODGE TRUCK website too. So I wonder what happened?
So he didn't transplant the Hemi to the 2WD he bought?
I probably have his email somewhere if I didn't loose it when I redid my computer here...
