Message: Yeah, towings a great torque test; anything that requires torque will show how it's affected. Since motorcycles don't generally tow, when modding our bikes we had favotite long uphill runs where we knew how much speed we could build by a certain point to check our mods. I know what you mean about sound Anthony; I had a single exhaust on my 1200 Sporty because that's what made the most power, but it didn't sound or look as good as the dual systems. I still prefer the best power to looks or sound, but everyone has different preferences.
I used to keep up more with the classic Mopar magazines when I still had my Barracuda and Challenger; I noticed all the top builders in the dyno testing had gone to x-pipes. Those guys tested very methodically.

Message: Go with TRUE duals and headers. I've talked about this before. There seems to be some bad info going around about exaust and back pressure. Some poeple out there think they need the back pressure to make low end power. NOT TRUE. Your motor wants to pump air in and out as fast and easily as it can. Back pressrue causes the motor to work harder to expell spent gases. Now it may be anywhere from 4 to 8 HP on a normal motor with no mods but the way I see it that's power I want to use not lose. So here's how it works--- if you have back pressure in a motor when the motor takes it's next breath of fresh air and fuel there will still be spent gases in the chamber and that will take the bite out the next compression cycle. If you swap to headers and true duals all the spent gases will be pumped out and the new air and fuel coming in will have the room it needs to do it's job the best that it can. To understand this better think about breathing from your lungs. Go out and run around your house 10 times as fast as you can. When you stop just breath thru your nose. What you'll find is it takes longer for you the catch your breath, if you open your mouth and breath with your nose and mouth air flows thru much easier. Make the motor breath easier and you'll find power. As a motors speed increases so does back pressure-- with 2 lbs of back pressure at 70 MPH the loss is 4 HP-- at 4 lbs power loss increases to 8HP. Think about it.

Message: What do you mean by "true" dual exhaust? I was thinking about getting my exhaust redone with duals.. I was thinking that each header should have its own downpipe and exhaust going back... kinda like having 2 exhausts on one truck... is that what you mean by "true"?

Message: YES, True duals is when each side of the motor has it's own header and pipe to exaust spent gases. There are some very fine points to making power. If you do your homework you'll find little thigs make a difference. The best thing you can do is learn the basics of how motors run and what happenes inside when it's running. Once you do that you'll see and understand what it takes to make power.

Message: I think the major problem people come up with, when they do their exhaust is they don't want to spend the money for true dual exhaust and thats where the dual outlet mufflers got popular.
Because when you go to a true dual exhaust, you're also talking about true dual catalytic converter's as well. Not to mention dual (if not QUAD) o2 sensors, and of course dual mufflers and dual tips. Of course once you're done, you're truck is gonna finally be able to breath and exhale.

Message: I was told you do not need a second cat on the truck if you go true because the truck is only looking for one.(Computer is just looking for one)So why spend the extra money for another cat.Or is this not true?Sounds like it makes sense.

Message: My PCM would be looking for 2; depends on the truck - and also if you'll need to pass a visual emissions inspection.
