Subject: 4x4 ECU Availability

I am in email contact with a distributor who says the warehouse they get their parts from still shows performance replacement ECU's for the Dakota 4x4 Auto 4.7L V8. I have a 2000 QC 4x4 Auto 3.55's
4.7L V8 & he said he would just need to put a hold of the cost of the ecu against my credit card but not actually charge me unless the part is available. Anyway, before I get flooded with email as to the site in question & before I would purchase it if it is still available, I wanted to find out if anybody who actually got one when they first came out whether or not it made significant gains & did it improve shift points on the automatic. The improvement of shifting is a big concern to me since if it doesn't help shift points, I would rather wait until an aftermarket ecu programmer is available that can easily handle the task. Supposedly, Mopar discontinued them since they failed emissions & as far as the the redesigned ones, they cleared emissions but didn't make significant performance gains, thus the ecu was shelved altoghether. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
