Message: The intake is useful and easy to install. The TBS isn't all that useful.. especially on the 3.9 and 5.2L engines. There are too many 90 degree turns. The Poweraid spacers give a *slight..VERY slight* improvement on the 4.7L engines at high RPMs with an aftermarket intake, but it isn't worth the money and are a pain in the arse to install. You'd be better off investing the money in a new throttle body or something similar. One thing that is really popular to do with the 3.9L engines is to get a V8 throttle body to replace the stock one.

Message: I have a 4.7 and got the airaid quickfit. What a waste of money! For about $100 more I got the superchips power programmer and felt a huge difference in power and performance. As far as that airaid intake, just fashion up some sort of home brew kit and save yourself about $100 or more of your money. As far as th tbs, I have not read to many positive reveiws by people on this board, but I am sure the salesman assured you of at least 10% gains. For 100 bucks, I will tell you some lies too.

Message: In case you don't have a tach, your engine lives right around 2,000 RPM. That's when you aren't red-lining it between shifts.
Point?
You could have got better performance with a better air filter and saved the cost of the plumbing, and all the extra dirt and crud you pick up.
Example, to make the point; The Flowmaster, which does sound masculine idling, does absolutely nothing for my 3.9, but make a lot of noise, until I'm going 75MPH at 65 MPG.

Message: I've had an airaid on my 2000 4.7 Dakota for 2 seasons now with no complaints. The only reason I got it was because I got it cheap on an ebay auction (75 dollars). On a side note, I do take it all off in the fall (around end of October) and put the stock airbox setup back in for the winter which has a K&N drop in...yeah I know excessive, but I like the look of the open air and in my mind I like to think it makes my truck go faster ;) I keep my open air K&N cleaned regularly and have had no issues at all.

Message: I've had the Airaid intake on my '04 Quad Cab 4.7L for about 2 years (got it used, cheap, about 20K miles, on e-Bay). Fuel economy went up about 10% and slight performance increase. Love the way it sounds like a big ole 4 bbl when you hammer the gas. NO, I'm not a salesman for Airaid

Message: I love my Home Brewed intake :-)
it only costed $45 for a filter and the piping.
you can call as cheap but i prefer more intelligent.
after i install my intake i went from a 16.4 to a 15.8 in the 1/4, and was beating my friends R/T.
i helped install one of those airaids on my friends dakota and its a nice kit but the way it mounts to the trucks fenders is a bad design.

Message: I can't believe anyone thinks a Throttle Body SPACER would do jack! Why would adding 1/2" or so of MORE pipe behind the TB and then going through all the bends before the intake valves do any good? I know that different lengths will "tune" it and have the peak moved to different RPM ranges. I think they just sell the things because people keep buying them.
As far as intake tubes with a filter on them. $200 is WAY TOO MUCH for something that really doesn't do much except make it louder.
The only time that has ever helped is on cars where I've removed stock RESTRICTIVE intake tubes going through weird bends and taking air nehind the headlight or something and would make an intake (sometimes almost a scoop) to get air from outside the hood and into a less restrictive tubing.
One car that made the biggest difference was my friend's 3.1 beater Baretta we did all sorts of "testing" too. After the true "Ram Air" intake through the hood, it could keep up with my truck when it was stock 0 to 60 when it could not before.
The piping on our trucks isn't that bad. Just make sure it gets the air from the fender or outside the hood.
BTW. ABS and rubber 'no hub' connectors are cheap at real plumbing stores.
It don't look that bad. Better than making someone else rich with a kit that does nothing.

Message: i have an 05 dakota with a K&N intake and a flowmaster... the intake goes right up next to a little hole with foam around it...i guess thats where the air is directed but it looks poorly designed...is it a good idea to make that whole bigger? or maybe make a new hole somewhere...or maybe add pipiing and put the actual filter in some better flow? cuz i know just from looking under my hood air is not being pushed in very well

Message: I have the airaid system on my 01 4.7 with no improvements al all except for the resonating air intake sound. Other than that the only thing I've gained with this intake system is a oil film inside the intake tube and grit that has passed the filter and stuck to everything up to the throttle body. I'm glad I nabbed it on ebay for 15.00 or I'd be really sad. Save your motor and keep the stock set up.
