because my friend has an '06 crew cab Titan and hes raced a hemi ram and durango and beat both of them by quite a bit, like a 1/4 to 1/2 a truck length ahead.
haha thats why i cant wait to get my engine done, expecting around 180-200 hp at the wheels and 260-280 ft. lbs. of torque
think ill be able to hang with em?

Message: And the Heme's DON'T have torque management????????? Especially DRIVE BY WIRE???
I have drove BOTH the 4.7 and 4.8 on a daily basis, and for a while had BOTH TRUCKS in my driveway at the same time.
The 4.8 screamed and felt strong once it hit high RPM's. Felt like it pulled me into the seat.
But in reality it's not as much as you think because form the dig the 4.7 in my 4X4 would RUN from that 4.8 stock gearing and all.
And I think my 4.7 pulls the hills better than the 2WD 4.8 I drove.
They are just different in tuning. And each could be built up. There is surely MORE for the Chevy though since it's all similar no matter what V8 engine.
Oh yeah. My 4.7 HAD torque management at shifts.
Fed. They all ran around 16.1 to 16.4 the few times I watched. The 2WD of each doing like 16.1 I have some videos somewhere.
I was running 16.5 then with my one wheel peel.
Last time I ran mine, was not against any of them but against my bro in law. His 318 RAM 2WD dropped from near 17 to 16.5
I dropped from 16.5 to about 16 flat.
Still beating his 2WD 318 with my 4WD 4.7 :p

My truck was about stock. Had the superchips I think. HO cams maybe but I never felt much on the but dyno from them.

That's a video of me against a 2WD Hemi Ram. The beginning and end were cut off by the kids running the camera. But you can see we are close. I was up at the 1/8 mile and the Hemi beat me by the end by 4/10's

Bye-Bye 4.8 2WD Chevy
Both of those runs I had tires deflated to 15 or so PSI to control spin. The Hemi I KNOW had LSD as I watched him run other races and do a burnout.

Message: 2002 R/Tm the 4.8 already in it's powerband, I wouldn't underestimate it at that point. They tend to sream from 3500 to redline. But I still think I'm better off with mine for the towing I do. It grunts the trailer down the road pretty darn good! The 4.8 Silverado I had didn't have any down low power at all.
Fed, yeah a 5 speed 4.7 would be pretty good.
Seeing that a 2005 or whatever it was, 4.8 Chevy Silverado 2WD ran 16's, and I've seen 2WD 4.7 AUTO tranny Daks run low 15's at the same track...... Where would a 5 speed be? From what i hear, they have been known to beat 5.9 R/T's in the 1/4 completely stock. I guess 5 speeds (manual) help any engine. Mine is an auto.

i still think that the chevy would loose and even if it did pull it would only pull to 98mph and than the 4.7 could cruise by at 100mph.

a reg cab Dak 4.7 5 speed.
or a reg cab Silvy 4.8 5 speed?

Close to totally stock is the only way to compare. Put some REAL mods in either one and you can no longer compare them.
I didn't notice jack sh*t from my HO cams. But if it got me .1 faster in the 1/4 than a 4.8 then that's cool I guess. If I was a 2WD RC I would have smoked it by probably 1.0 in the 1/4 :D
The Chevy has more mods, that is for certain because the engines are all made similar.
It's still a gutless engine from a dead stop. Kind of like driving a Accord V6 V-Tec. (I have driven a family member's). Not even enough power to peel the FWD from a dead stop. But once it hits 4,000+ and the cam lobes change it feels like you added another engine.
THAT is what the 4.8 Chevvy felt like when I drove it for a year. Nothing until 4k then like you added another engine to it when it pulled really hard. But it may feel liek it's pulling so hard because it was so gutless down low :)

Message: well Fed i will have the chose the 4.8 over the 4.7 the 4.8 5spd tranny is geared pretty low so it has suprisingly good take off so then it gets in its powerband pretty quick. a while back i ran with some guy on the steet with with a 4.8,5spd on the street with my R/T and i was pretty impressesed as he was creeping away from me. at the time i had a flowmaster and air intake. it was from a roll up to 60mph. all he has was a flowmaster also. my friends 03 extra cab silverado is pretty darn quick on the street for just havin a intake, catback
