go to ( enginemasters.com ) they have a write on building 3 big blocks. ford 460c.i chevy 454c.i & dodge 440c.i
go to "big block shootout" you should read all the big block challenge, its a great read!
they also did a small block shootout, but I'm not sure where the write up is on that page. I'm guessing the competition was, ford 351 windsor, chevy 350, & i know they used a dodge 360. dodge also won the small block challenge with the 360c.i.

some other interesting reading: Bulldozer Torque.
i was raised with Buicks at the house. have one now, '78 Skylark 2dr. trying to decide on drivetrain. either a v6 turbo from an '86-'87 GN or the 455.
either should be fun in a car weighing less than 3k.

Wow, my jaw dropped when I saw how much HP and Torque that 440 was putting out. That is insane. Mopar for the win!

my mom had a skylark, and she loves talking about how fast it was.
the buick 455c.i was a torque monster!! those v6 were great too! i think the dodge neon 2.4L turbo 4cyl-srt-4, is doing what the turbo v6 buick did. proved that you could have v8 like torque in a smaller motor.
amazing 7000rpm rev-able powerband, tq, and hp the 440 had. i thought the gm 454 would win since it was designed for performance in the first place. 454 used no stock components like the 440(crank) and 460(crank/rods) did. hell the block was even brand new! the gm guy was mad he lost in the small block shootout, and said "if you guys every do a big block challenge we'll kick their @sses!" proof chevys are overrated!!!

I knew the 440s were good, had one in my 70 Roadrunner. Burned the tires all 4 gears and topped at over 145 MPH. Engine was stock except for Holley 850 and headers.

They where built by an average Joe not the auto makers so it's any ones win. I also highly dough the Dodge 360 beat the Chevy 350 or the Ford 351. Mopar is good but there 360 is just a crap motor.
