Message: I was wondering how easy it was to drop a hemi into a dakota. i understand alot of things need to be changed to drop the hemi it in. i dont care i just want to know how easy it really is to do so. Cause the 3.9L or the 4.7L isnt not cutting it.

Message: Installing a 426 hemi should be too terribly hard. Just be ready to modify your frame, crossmember and upgrade your suspension and drivetrain. Those little hemis aren't worthwhile.

Message: A blown 408 would probably cost less then the 6.3 Hemi, and would make more power. Plus it would be alot easier to stick in there.

Message: It can be done if you have a good background in automotive electronics. There are several stand alone engine controllers that would make the job easier than trying to use stock components.
In the long run a 426 would likely be cheaper, easier and far more awsome.

Message: Its not to hard to do, the computer is the same the trans is the same as a 5.9 i went with a carb anyway, but the electronics oil, temp, alt, and tack i went with sun gages all were man. also i had to make mounts and headers. i have a 04 qc 4x4. it is no longer a 4x4 the diff was in the way and transfer case was to weak and too much trouble to fab a divorced case. it runs very well with 3:90 gears. i ran a 13.90 . it took about 3 months to do with all the research i got the engine from a 03 ram 4x4. that was rolled i paid 5000 bucks at an aution. good luck ! hope i helped.

Message: The very first thing you need to know is...
Is there emission testing where you live???
If so you can't go carbed or with anything older than a 4.7 or new Hemi I would think.
I'd throw a supercharger or something on before I'd just swap engines to be stock vs. stock.

Message: illinois has emission testing but there is ways around everything! i ran 10% alcohol in a with a half a tank of 90 octane, i dont have cats, true duels, so they only test on side and on a busy saturday they dont look under. i also have a 96 ram 4x4 1 ton with 8" lift a 1970 340 and a powerdyn super charger, about 500hp no computer just electronic ignition, and it passes every 2 years. also have a 89 dak 340 4-speed 8.3\4 rear with 4:10 gears weighs about 2700 lbs it runs 11s, and is street leagal and passes emitions every time on 90 octane so i dont know why everyone is so woried about the TEST , im not cheating, just studying more.cars and trucks today are so detuned and badly geared, that is why they are so slow but get good mileage and good emitions. however my ram past the test better than my 05 caravan, also my ram gets better mileage than stock and less emitions and is faster more tourqe, and sounds good too.

Message: also im amazed by everyone trying to hp a 4.7 i dont get it i had one in my 04 qc it had 50 miles on it, now its been made into beer cans by now. dont waste your time and money on a boat anchor. it might be ok as a daily driver but i needed more. so look for a wreaked ram, swap the engine and stop playing games with something that will never be cool, fast enough, or practical with after market parts, since you cant find a thermostat or a larger cam, or a set pistons or a stroker crank, etc.etc... good luck.
