Yep, they help. Best to leave them in the engine. 8)

Spark is spark. Electicity is like water, it will take the path of least
resistance. Everybody here has messed aroung with those fancy
auto parts displays. The spark plugs there are not under
compression. The only way to make your sprark hotter and strong
with just a plug is your gap.
Everybody Has their favorite brand. Mine is autolite. I am sure
some will tell you why not to use them. What ever makes you
happy, just stay cheap. Save some money. Most fancy plugs are just
a gimick.

I use autolite also. going to try NGK V groove in at around 50k miles. just leave what you have in there. check at prob 20 to 25 k miles. this engine wears down plugs quick. I wouldnt mess with plats and have heard to only use the iridium plugs if running a SC. sometimes cheaper is better

I use Autolite in all my vehicles. If a better spark plug actually did all they say they can, then the manufacturers would be using them.

Imagine someone telling a bean counter, "We can add 20hp, 15 ft/lb's of torque AND increase fuel mileage by 10%. It will only cost $10 per vehicle." What do you think would happen?

I'm afraid corporate america doesn't work that way. Just because it's a superior product doesn't mean they'll use it. The Fastman and F&B TBs are better than stock, but does Dodge use them? So many of these things are "back door" or "golf course" deals and how much they can save by trimming a bit here and there. Also, who owns what. Honda bikes mostly use Showa suspension. Why? Honda owns Showa.

Better means more to the individual than it does to a company.

That being said, I don't believe "spark is spark". There are ways to make it hotter to allow more gap; different materials and heat ranges affect it as well. No mod here will affect everyone's truck the same. Many people here said not to run the Bosch Platinum +4s, but they're working great in my truck. If you want to save $, the Autolites seem to be popular.

Once the spark ignites the mixture, the plug has nothing to do with flame propagation speed or direction, so as long as it ignites when you want it to (controlled by voltage and therefore gap), there is no difference.

What makes a difference is that some plugs (notably AC in my experience, and often Autolite) have more of a tendency to flashover, as evidenced by the carbon ring around the insulator shell (even with new wires on tight). Champions, which are OEM, never do that in my vehicles.

Platinums do nothing more than foul more slowly, so you can leave them in there longer (til they seize in the threads). Unless they are a pain to get to, platinum is a waste of money.

I prefer Champion Truck plugs. They run smooth and seem to be holding up well. Don't buy into the hype of E3, Halo, or Bosch +4 plugs. All the independent tests I've read for E3 plugs show equal and even sometimes worse performance/mileage than a standard plug. I had Bosch Platinum +4's in my .318 on my Jeep. Ran horribly till I swapped them out with stocks. Save your money.

I want to get the Champion truck plugs, but I can't figure out which one is the equivalent to the AP3923, which is colder than stock.

Wahrsuul. I said Gap, if you read my post. If you mess around with
the heat range, and don't know what you are doing. You could get
some preignition or fouled plugs.

A retired Ford engineer told me that if they could save a penny by eleminating a washer it would translate to hundreds of thousands of dollars savings.
Sometimes it is superior technology like breakerless ignition is used to save. Usually that doesn't make it worse for us.
My Jacobs ignition book talks about things like shims to get the opening of the plug aligned to the intake valve so the spark is where the best mixture is; maybe why the Bosch+4 plugs didn't work well for jpkomm; blocked off too much air.
Platinums are only supposed to burn up slower. The spark wants to go to a sharp place which is why the performance drops off when the electrode gets rounded off.

I supose I'll get beat up here bad if for no other reason my bad spelling but with all due respect to everybody I wish you guys would listen to your own words. Most already figured out spark is spark. But that doesn't mean you can't deliver it a bit differant to your engine. Platnium plugs just may make an engine run better PROVIDED your ignition system is week for some reason. Platnium plugs have very low resistance. That said they allow arc over way to easy allowing a week spark that is delivered a minut amount sooner then the dodge trucks need.(SPARK KNOCK).Your also saying the manufacturers use what they use for a reason. More true then you might want to believe. Dodge runs champion plugs. Reason is they have the highest resistance of all plugs that I'm aware of. Regular champions have 75,000 OMS resistance thereby holding arc over back and allowing higher voltage buildup prior to allowing the plug to fire. Now think on this guys. It is in fact exactly what our engines require to help at least a bit with spark knock. This takes us back to a statement made in this post. Manufacturers use the plug they use because it serves the purpose the best. Myself I go one step farther and use CHAMPION TRUCK PLUGS. They have 85,000 OMS resistance so just a bit better then the regular ones. I been using champion truck plugs in all my autos and have done so for many years. Never had one fail and never had an engine that didn't run better and for a longer time to boot. Oh. By the way. In case you never picked up on it, the more resistance in the plug the longer the voltage is held back to build up higher and stronger and the hotter the spark you get. Is this not what everybody wants? I think it is. Got to remember. It is not the spark that causes spark knock. It is things in the combustion chamber that glow red hot setting off fuel at the wrong time.Fix the real problem and run the right plugs. This includes the plenun which can leak so little you don't think it is a problem. There are other things though as I said. Before anyone asks. I use the plug number asked for always in my engines. I have no spark knock because I have no problems. Look around the garbage and get going with the real deal and soon you will be a very happy camper. And yes, running S/C or turbo or really heavy hoped up high compression does require colder plugs. Very few of you have these HD mods. What you do and believe is your choice. It doesn't effect how nice my autos run at all. Have a nice day and a better summer.

So many problems .... So lttle time
