I'm getting ready to purchase a leftover '05 Dakota SLT 4x4 and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the 4.7 HO engine? It's supposed to put out 30 more HP than the original 4.7. Do you think it's worth the extra money and does the gas milage change much?

Mileage would be similar I would think unless you throttle it alot like the most of us :p

It has higher compression, better cams, heads are slightly different, and I think forged rods although the rods in my extra stock 4.7 are already beefy looking H-Beam rods so wonder why they bothered with that?

But supposed to be over 320 Ft Lbs and something like 260HP

Go for the HO. I doubt milage would be much different. Many of us have swapped the HO cams into our trucks without seeing much change in milage, I didn't see any. The HO package also has more ignition advance, which doesn't usually hurt milage. I think it comes with a stronger crank too.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Unlike the standard 4.7 I believe the HO has knock sensors(maybe one on each bank?)

Better wrist pins too?,floating or something, going by memory.
