Subject: Performance parts Questions? IP: Logged
Message: Well, I'm in a bit of a pickle... I have read on these forums and many others that people have older Daks and they have performance parts on them. My question is where can I find parts like tbs, k&n, cams, intakes, ignition/distributors, etc. for my 93 dakota 318? Call me stupid but every site I go to only has parts for newer dakotas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to win a race against a spoiled kid who drives a 2005 nissan frontier with around 300hp. Yes, it's a V6. I haven't raced him yet, but I don't think I can take him stock with my 318.
Please help...

Message: You kinda have to look at a broad range of years. The 5.2 and 5.9 engines are similar in respect. Has to be 92 and newer years. You can go to the dealer but that gets expensive. There are places like KRC and Hughs that have a wide range of performance parts. There are alot of people on here that can give you tips. You have to remember that the kid down the street has a new truck that is still tight. You have a truck that is 13 years old. You could also try Jegs and Summit they have alot of things for our trucks.Goodluck.

Message: Stock for stock you will take the frontier unless you have a heavy CC 4X4. The frontier has 265 HP. But it takes 5600 RPM's to reach that. You will take him from a dead start for sure. I have drove the frontier and it had some balls from about 35-40. Then some more balls form about 70-75 MPH. But the rest of the time these trucks bog down.
Now for perfomance parts...You can get a lot of parts form summit and jegs, hughesengines.com, krcperformance.com, Ebay is a great one too. Also try the for sale section over at dakota-durango.com. I have got a few things from there.
Any more help just let me know.

Message: If your transmission is big enough, ask them at www.gearvendors.com what they can do for you.
They laughed when I asked about one for my 3.9 automatic.

Message: It's not the size of the tranny they were laughing at, it's the relatively low output of the V6. It takes torque to pull overdrive, especially at low engine rpm's. Gear Vendors makes a unit for the 904, which is the 3-speed that became the A500/42/44 model trannys.

Message: Ryan,
Buy a mopar performance pcm and make sure your running lower gear rearend 3.91 to 4.10. Get a good set of wide tires for back to hook up well.
Mopar performance also sales cams that would up your power. The first thing to do is dual exhaust with high flowing mufflers and cats if necessary in your area.
Take it easy,
