Talked to a turbo guy who reparis/sells turbos.
He says the operation of a remote turbo goes against all logic turbo thinking. However he says ppl claim it works and sometimes well.
But remember. While installing in the back may SEEM easy. There are certain things to overcome. Like oil drainage. You have to use a PUMP to return the oil.
I'll stick to the engine bay location.

I read, with a remote site, you don't need an oil line, b/c the heat is much less.
Go figure

Message: yes i believe i would have to T-into the oil sending unit or use a separate system to provide oil.i have owned turbo-charged cars. with this setup no intercooler is needed and i do not think STS would offer a system for $4k if it did not work. as far as going against turbo logic it is still driven by exhaust it just has a longer path.

Message: i don't think that sending unit tap would give enough volume. maybe something to adapt from the oil filter mount then a return back into the side of the oilpan.
the only thing, performance wise, would be a little more lag than usual since it's mounted so far down the exhaust. but, i'm sure with the right turbo/impeller setup, it wouldn't be too bad.

Message: sending unit works just great..
turbo's do not need a lot of oil. Infact, it's best to put a small restrictor on the oil inlet of the turbo to keep from getting too much oil in it and f'n the bearings on it.

Message: 2003flrt...... Parts needed may have to be made if your going with a junk yard setup. You first need to find one and get all the parts possible that has anything to do with it from the breather down. Then the work starts designing your parts you will need to make. Basicly, your going to play the whole instalation by the seat of your pants.

Message: that guy is parting out his setup.
his turbo wouldnt build full boost until about 3500 rpms according to him (7 psi). His turbo was rather identical to the turbo i used, but his turbine was just a hair smaller, which should spool the turbo faster and cause the boost to hit earlier.
however, my turbo that i had mounted next to the motor made full boost (8 psi) around 2300 rpms.

Message: Unless there is a leak in his system, having the turbo at the rear of the truck, or under the hood, should have no effect on his boost. As soon as the whole system is pressurized (which should happen at idle) there shouldn't be a problem. Sound like he may have had a waste-gate problem. Or a leaking blow-off valve.
The remote setup will keep the turbo cooler (extending it's life) and the exhaust gasses would also be less turbulent further from the motor (I don't know if a turbo cares how turbulent the gasses are).

idle and cruising, it's under vacuum.
