Subject: Exhaust Wizards - I need some help! IP: Logged
Message: I know some of you out there have done this. I want to run TRUE duals, and get rid of the cat on my truck. But there's an O2 sensor before and after the cat. How can I rig this so it doesn't mess up my air/fuel mixture by sending back the wrong readings? I really want to run true duals with Hooker mufflers. I've seen a guy with an R/T that ran true dual straight pipes- but i don't know how he did it. Any help is appreciated, or you can e-mail me at tekno@ec.rr.com.
Thanks!

Message: Mark, I'm not sure if true duals would really be worth your while. I've heard about people losing low end torque from having an exhaust that's too free flowing in these trucks. Plus, true dual exhaust is MUCH more expensive. As for the cat, I'd leave that alone. Too much trouble and do you want your car to not pass emmissions? A nice cat-back would be better as far as time and money is concerned and maybe even performance. However, running true duals would be cool and unique (and loud as all hell). I wouldn't worry too much about the cat if u did put on true duals. Just my 2 cents.

Message: i agree with fot80, the only way not to lose torque is to run 1 1/2" pipe on each side. and who makes a 1 1/2" high flow muffler? also running the pipe around the gas tank will be fun.

Message: personally i would run an emissions leagal header, then run a cat back sys. that will give you the flow you are lookin for. the best cat back system i have found so far is found at, of all places, Midas. they have several different types from the performance series, to the ravin.
my favorite is the performance series, which flows better than the flowmaster exhaust. it also has a nice rumble. the ravin is more expensive, flows better, and is LOUDER. the performance mufflers also carry a lifetime warranty, whereas the ravin does not. hope this info helps
i am an ASE certified master tech.(also cert. in exhaust specialist)

Message: You would have to weld nuts or flanges nepending on the type of o2 sensor your truck has. You will have to make sure that you get them as close to the same location as possable. If your cats use a temp sensor or pre warmer you should try to maintain these as well. I think you would be better off with a 3 inch single exhaust if you must change the factory exhaust. Several memebers have reported little improvement with after market exhaust systems. They are a great improvement to your truck once other mods have been performed. The system from the cat back is realy a pretty good design compared to most factory systems.
