 Subject: Cross drilled brake rotors

I've been seeing a lot of different cross drilled brake rotors for sale on Ebay. Prices vary from $60/pair to $140/pair. Some are made in Canada, so I guessing that they're not off-shore crap. Does anyone have experience with these rotors, especially ones bought off Ebay. My concerns are: 1)they might reduce braking (which currently I'd give my brakes a C+ at best) 2) They might warp over time.

They will reduce braking effectiveness simply by reducing surface area and friction. Over time (not much time) they will crack around the holes. Then you'll have to buy new ones.
Go to the Baer Brakes and Willwood Brakes web site and read what they say about drilled rotors.
It doesn't make sense to buy a part that doesn't work as good, doesn't last as long, and cost twice as much as a stock replacement. If you need new rotors, go to your local parts store and get a good quality set of solid rotors; they will cost you around $50'ish.

One thing to keep in mind with the cross-drilled rotors is that if you live on a dirt road or rocky road there is a chance (however small) that a rock will get caught in one of the holes. I like Raybestos Professional Grade front rotors on my rig. They work really well and aren't warping (yet) like the stock ones did. They are also only $58.xx from Advance Autoparts. Just a suggestion. :)

I got mine from NAPA. they carry 2 differant quality rotors. I bought the best ones at 56 bucks each jobber price. I installed them on my 99 4x4 CC Dakota at 20,000 miles > My factory pads looked great so I reused them. I now have over 65,000 on this truck and I do not have one single complaint about my brakes and I just checked the pads a few days ago and there still at 1/2 wear. I see no reason why anybody would not be happy with what I did. One other thing > From day one my Dakota brakes made terrible scrawling sounds just short of stopping. With the new rotors most of this stopped right away and by the time I had maybe 2 or 3 hundred miles on them 99% of all undesirable noises was gone and stayed gone to this day. The fix price was reasonable. The intire job, both sides took less then 30 minutes and for some reason I have never experianced the brake dust on the wheels problem I read about all the time . No answer to this one.

i just switched from the stock pads, to ceramic and they work prob 25% better. plus no noise, minimum dust.

Be carefull about ceramic pads. They work just as well as semi-metallic. They are very low dusting. They are very quiet. BUT, they are generally not recommended for towing applications. Apparently, they can't handle the heat.

been towing 6000+ w/ my ceramic pads for a few months now, no problems, BUT i have trailer brakes and that helps alot, but thanks for the info, i'll have to switch to something different in the future.
