I beat a RC 4.8 Chevy 2WD by 1/10th one night at Speedworld. I thought he'd take my 4X4 QC easy so don't know what happened. He didn't make any excuses. Just said he'd want a rematch after he got his programmer.

The driver of the truck worked the lines at the track too!

That was also back with my 3.55 gears one wheel peel running stock tires at 15 PSI

After driving both, I don't see how the 4.8 could win. I still think the 4.7s can beat the 5.9s...the two 4.7s I drove ran amazing and the three 4.8s I drove were nicely powered but it didn't even feel the same.

However, I can imagine a 2WD regular cab staying right with you graphite...he's got all the odds for him...well....except the engine.

Yeah. The 4.8 I drove (my work truck) came on strong, actually felt really strong, after 3K RPM's or so.
My 4.7 pulls pretty much the entire powerband.

I LIKE the 4.7. Enough that I just bought a used one to rebuild for my old hot rod :)

It's a pretty high tech design compared to the older engines.

I bought one that had damage from someone not changing the oil!

Here's my pix on my site if anyone wants to see the insides of a 4.7 as well as what happens if you don't change you oil!

4.7 235hp vs 4.8 290hp as of 2005 the 4.8 I drove was a little weak off the line but really made up for it mid range so I will go with the 4.8

Them factory ratings don't always mean everything. Tourque may be less on the 4.8, since it's guttless until it revs.

I kind of raced with my friends new Tahoe 5.3 Liter last night. Anyone know what they weigh? Mine's sitting 5,000 Lbs with everything I have in it. He thought he was more. But his is 2WD Chevy, and Chevy's are fairly light I thought.

Anyway. When we hit it from a roll, it seemed like his was in the power and I couldn't overtake him. He almost edged from me.

From a dead stop I pulled from him immediately but we never got to go fast enough to see if he would then come back and pass me, or whatever. Need to go to the track. But he doesn't seem interested.

yea the 4.8 and 5.3's do have quite a bit of power. they are pretty much based on the LS1 out of the Camaro and T/A.

i think the 4.7 vs 4.8 is a great match up! the 5.3 is a powerful motor but lowend grunt is nothing like the dodge motors. two of my friends have the 5.3, one has the electric throttle body and the other doesnt. the one with out the electric throttle body has more low end tq for some reason. the chevy motor is easy to get off the line but is had to get from a roll. let us know how the race goes.

Well maybe in a few weeks. I'll be out of town this coming weekend.

Maybe the one after that. I'd like to see if the duals helped/hurt my 1/4 :)

Hopefully I can still take you from the hole, but you get me on the last 1/8 damn you :(

I don't think you've been there since I got my gears. It still wasn't enough to take you in the 1/4 though...

Keep in touch.
