Subject: dakota vs 01 5.3 chevy truck IP: Logged
Message: my friend just got a 01 chevy cc 4x2 1500 5.3 v8 auto LSD 3.73s and dual exhaust. we have raced twice and i won one he won one. both races ended with about a tenth of second led.
his times on the G-Tech 1/4 tester
fastest 15.65 @ 86mph
constant 15.9 @ 85mph
my times G-Tech
fastest 15.8 @ 87mph
constant 16.0 @ 86mph
now i want to get my truck down to the 15.6 constant and want to know the cheapest way to do that. i was going to relocate the ATI? sensor is this worth doing? any other suggestions will be appreciated. looking to take the truck out next weekend to test and see.

Message: toolfan,
is there a cheap way to do bring your quarter down that much? .4 of a second is a hell of a lot if you think about it...
i dont know
i think you'd have to get some gears toolfan, or rockers maybe...find some cheap rockers and throw em in there, www.harlandsharp.com
$220 for a set of aluminum rockers.
im hoping that could get you to 15.6

Message: I heard somewhere that for every 100 pounds you get rid of on your vehicle, you can pick up (on average) a tenth in the quarter. I thought that was pretty interesting considering how much excess weight I have in my truck, like the toolbox, spare tire, stock bumpers, rubber bed mat/drop-in bed liner, skid plates, etc. Hope this helps you beat that Chevy!

Message: If Gunner's statement is true about shaving a tenth of a second for every 100 lbs then I can run a half a second quicker if I let my girlfriend watch instead of ride.

Message: i have heard that statement to and yes dropping weight makes a difference. with my friend in the car i will run a 16.0 but with out him 15.8. and every 100 pounds is a tenth or more.i will drop the tail gate and take of some other components and we will see if i can get the dakota down to 15.6. add up the power to weight on the trucks shows that i have 2 more pounds to each hp. i would have to drop a lot weight or up the power.
ComeOn lmao

Message: we took the trucks out and both me and him had sh!tty times. i run a best of 16.03 he ran a best of 16.2. i had drop at least a 100 pounds and the traction of the line was horrible. the ram air thing i made works great but for some reason the times werent. :( i think the winter gas has something to do with it. i might be going down to LACR and run the drag out there next weekend.
looking to get some 3.92s or 4.10s with LSD and a shift kit. than the truck should run 15s till it blows up!!

Message: i have a 2004 dakota v8 ext cab 2wd and my brother has a 2000 dakota 5.3 ext cab 4x4. we both have exhaust and have raced many times and it's dead even. if one of us is faster i may be microscopicly faster, but i wouldn't bet any money on it. we both have exhaust and are both getting cams installed. we'll see when he gets his 210 duration and i get my 206.

Message: the 5.3 is goin to be faster than the v8 dak. the 4.8/5.3 are based on the LS1 and they really open up with a cam install.
