Subject: eldebrock headers IP: Logged
Message: 2 part ? 1 i have done a search and found alot of people dont have eldebrock headers why? performance issues, i am wondering because my dad got me some for christmas.
2 when installing them is it easier to remove the front wheels and wheel wells to get to the bolts or through the engine bay? might sound stupid but changing spark plugs through the wheel well is eaiser in my opinion. what u guys think? 5.9 r/t 2002

Message: I don't know about the 5.9, but the 3.9 and 5.2 tend to loose low end grunt with performance headers. As for changing them out, on the 3.9, it is easier to work on them through the wheel wells.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: Buy the hedmann headers. THey are 1 5/8" primaries with 2 1/2" collectors. They are pretty mch the only headers for a v8 dakota that have primaries bigger than 1 1/2" other than the hookers. and the hedmanns are the only ones of the larger ones that bolt up to the stock exhaust. The factory primary size on your manifolds is 1 1/2" and the norm of headers for any american small block v8 is a 1 5/8" primary so why cheat yourself. My headmans were only 160 bucks brand new and aside from the fact that they were coated or anytyhing they are great and I'm really glad I didnt get the waste of money other ones. I'm now thinking I may have to have them stripped and ceramicoated sometime soon (more power [from better heat scavengine and evacuation] and they wont rust plus you can get better money for them on resale later)
Hedman part #79540 for uncoated
Hedman part #79546 for coated
Get the uncoated for as cheap as you can find them (you can get them coated later for less than the difference in price retail between the two part numbers) I believe I got mine from P.A.W. summit also has both part numbers but either my memory is bad or the price for them went up or summits just more expensive. Just find the cheapest price you can for the uncoateds and you will not be disappointed.

Message: OK I'm sorry I just checked and Edelbrock recently changed their Tubular exhaust system headers to 1 5/8" primaries and those do come coated, but the hedmans still have primary tubes t hat are pretty much totally equal length while the edelbrock setup couldnt be more uneven and thus youll have more power with the hedmans.

Message: They are a christmas present from my father so im not gonna bit*h and they are the ceramic coating so they should give the motor some more power through the uper rpm range. also my r/t has never smoked the tires from a dead stop or slow speeds, hope fully it gives some more kick of the line.

Message: yea i installed them sunday i like it. The headers made my truck exhaust more bassy (if thats a word) Not to loud just right. Helped the lower end tourqe alot I can light my tires up from a dead stop and will chip the tires shifting from 1st to 2nd. They didnt seem to help through the higher speeds from about 60 cant really tell a diffrence. These are the first headers I have got for any of my vehicles so i cant really compare the eldebrock to anyother company, but first time owner i am happy.

Message: I've got the PPH (MOPAR PERFORMANCE)headers on my truck, they went on easy enough (the Y-pipe was a pain in the a$$)I didn't notice any bottom end loss whatsoever. Mind you mine is a 5.9R/T and I have a 2400 stall converter. But like 2002 R/T said I've already got to much low end grunt, I'm trying to move it up the curve a bit.

Message: glad to hear you like the edelbrocks. Ive got a set and was debating whether to keep them and install them or not. Not many people run them. Maybe the lower price deters some people...thinking theyre junk? I just might keep them now.
