How do you adjust the tv cable on a '93 318 to get a solid shift at redline (WOT)?

take it to a tranny shop to do it the right way, or you can just screw with it. its a hit and miss thing.

Experimenting with the TV cable is not usually the best way to improve shifts. Stick with a shift kit. To properly adjust the cable consult a Haynes or similar manual.

If you move the adjustment clip further forward, effectively lengthening the cable housing, it will increase the line pressure and make you shift later. It also increases the lockup mph. I adjusted mine one clip position and it bumped my lockup from 45 mph to 50 mph. It did shift harder too.

But you should listen to jayb and N56629. The TV cable should be adjusted as per the manual (basically take all the slack out so that as soon as you move the throttle, the cable starts moving). Use a shift kit. They aren't that much and you should be able to put it in yourself. The valvebody in our tranny's are not scary at all.

this might be related to the topic...

okay, so when im floored my truck shifts fine from first to
second (in drive at about 4800 RPMs)...it also shifts fine from
2nd to third but (still floored in drive) a few seconds into 3rd
gear it shifts back to 2nd going through the redline and
sometimes it goes from 2nd to 3rd to 2nd and really doesnt
sound good so ive just been using the column shifter from 2nd
to drive... i think it's confused and goes back to second...does
this have anything to do with the TV cable?

again, this is all when i leave it in drive.

it might. screw around with it and see if you have any change. adjust it all the way out and then try it. then push it back in click by click till it shifts the way you want. thats what i do with my 93 v8 4x4.
