Subject: Sloppy distributer IP: Logged
Message: My truck has 190,000 miles on it. I have kept up with all the up keep and tune ups and it still runs good but something is not quite right. I replaced my timing chain/gear last year and it helped smooth out the motor especially at idle. But its starting to act the same way again and I was thinking distributer. I was wondering what a sloppy distributer would act like. How can I tell if a distributer is in need of replcement.

Message: I've seen a sloppy distributor with a very rough idle stabilize and seem to run ok at higher revs. Bearings were bad.

Message: Thats one long post - I have replaced alot of the things around the motor (power steering pump, rack and pinion, water pump, radiator, alternator, timing chain, PCM, all rubber in suspension, ball joints, u-joints, motor and tranny mounts, carrier bearing, body and bed mounts, shocks, ring and pinion, fuel pump, fuel filters, throttle bosy gasket, ignition and wiring, assorted sensors .....) I think the next item will be the distributor to see if I can smooth out the idle.

Message: Wow ! Buying a new truck one piece at a time ? Have you tried cleaning TB including IAC before replacing the distributor ? Also on the bad distributor I saw you could feel the play in it - does yours feel loose ?
