Subject: sagging suspension.. IP: Logged
Message: I remember reading on this forum a few weeks ago that someone was having the problem of their truck sagging a 1/2" on passenger side and pulling to the right somewhat hard. Is this a common problem with our trucks?? After reading that post I figured that I would investigate why my truck pulls to the right also, and surprise, surprise it is sagging a 1/2". So, what is wrong and how do I fix it?
thanks,
Trav

Message: Just crank up the torsion bar until it's level.

Message: How do you crank up the torsion bar?? It looks like there are set positions for the torsion bar.

Message: At the rear of the bar, there's an anchor and bearing assembly that bolts to the frame cross member. Simply turning the bolt will change the ride height. Be carefull not to remove it. It is a spring, and it carries a lot of energy.
Tighten the bolt to raise the suspension. Go in small steps, it doesn't take much. I would get 4 cheap linolium floor tiles, coat one side with grease and make a sandwich. Then put them under each front tire. That works like a alignment plate. Turn the bolt one turn at a time. Jump up and down on the front bumper to settle the suspension. When it's just right, drive it around a bit and measure again. That's all there is to it.

Message: I'm the original one who was talking about my suspension sagging. I'm not sure that I have a torsion bar. I have a sway bar up front but not sure how to adjust it. Any info would help greatly.

Message: if it's a 4x4 you've got torsion bars. 4x2's don't have 'em.

Message: Factory sway bars are not adjustable.
You can adjust factory coil springs by placing a spring rubber on top of the spring. Do not use those metal blocks that go between the spring coils. That changes your spring rate; which is not a good thing if only done on one side.

Message: I believe it is my bushings that are going bad. Springs shouldn't sag like that unless you over compressed them. Its a good possibility that I have squished them a little but I need to replace my bushings anyway. Who knows, if it is my springs then that just means its time to upgrade!
