Subject: Changing out 2.5L with 5.9? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 Dak regular cab with a 2.5L.
I want to replace the 2.5L with a 5.9 or any other V8. What would need to be done to put a 5.9 in or other V8? About how much would it cost?
Thanks in advance,
Alan

Message: it will take motor mounts and a computer and a 45 or 46re tranny drive shaft the front end will have to be strengthen and a posi to keep you from spinning them on every take off.
good luck with the install
and some mods to slow it down!

Message: I priced parts and labor to go from 3.9L to 5.9L. Here's a short list of parts required (I'm sure I'll get plenty of feedback if I'm wrong or missing something):
engine (duh)
transmission (46RE)
throttle body and maybe intake manifold
fuel rails and injectors
powertrain control module (PCM)
distributor
wiring harness
labor
all for a one time low price of 12,000!
So, I sold that slow piece of v6 crap and bought a 2000 R/T Club Cab, Black. Wow, what a truck!
I wouldn't recommend doing an engine swap. I've been told it's way to much hassle.
Go find an R/T. You'll get all the power you can handle, plus a heavy-duty suspension (sway bars, upgraded bushings) heavy duty rear brakes, 16" wheels - just to name a few.

Message: R/Ts are selling cheap and doing a swap in a daily driver is a bad idea.
and some mods to slow it down!
