Message: I'm clueless on Superchips. Does it just reprogram your truck's computer?? I just got my 4.7 liter Dakota two weeks ago and I think my wife's 2000 5.3 liter Suburban is quicker. The suburban also shifts quicker. Can a Superchip help me??

Message: What year is your truck?? I don't know if they have chips for 2004-2006? I just got mine for my 03 4.7 4x4 cc auto. Superchips gives you better shift times, increase rev and speed limiters, and increased hp and tq. You will definatly feel the increase in hp. Ive already got intake and exaust so superchips was a nice little addition.I initially started with add ons to beat my girlfriends trail blazer, so I appreciate your concern.

Message: I bought my 99 r/t off of a dealer lot about two months ago and it shifts pretty hard so I posted a thread on here about having a shift kit. Well, I was washing my truck today and I just now noticed the superchips sticker on the tailgate right above the bumper. I have had the truck for two months and I never noticed it. At least that explains the shifting and why I haven't felt much difference in my K&N FIPK. When I get my headers and redo my exhuast(bought the truck w/ a flowmaster on it but I'm not sure what kind it is and it is only a two inch pipe) I plan on having my truck dynoed. Problem with that is the only place in town that had a dyno went out of business. Now I have to drive an hour away for it. I wish I could contact the guy that owned the truck before me to get the programmer from him and try the 91 setting. Does anyone know if I buy my own can I reprogram it with a newer superchips programmer or is there some sort of serial number that will only read each individual superchip?

Message: steve o - I've been busy so I just saw your response to my question. My truck is a 2003 QuadCab 2WD with the 4.7 with 51,000 miles. The performance is OK but honestly I've been a little disappointed. As far as I know it's all stock. The hp gain you mentioned sounds good. Any downside to the Superchip?? Does it hurt mileage?? I average about 14 mpg now around town.

Message: Creig ya unfortunatly I can't give you an honest answer on the mpg thing. I ran 87 when I first got superchips and felt a definate power difference right off the hop. Anything over 25-3000 rpms and you'll notice the hp, the shift change is so much smoother, you don't lose power the truck shifts at optimal times.Ive been runing 91 since I emptied the tank, performance a little better than 87 but not huge. I've been pretty heavy on the gas and my mpg seem comparable maybe even a little improved . Ive heard guys with noticiable mpg improvements running the 87 program once the novelty wears off.I'm just finishing driving the sh*t out of my first tank of 91, I don't drive alot, but I'll let you know how the second tank goes. I'd say superchips was my best investment and I pd too much for it.

Message: creig,
Your auto tranny hurts. If you have the 'death flash', DC's answer to occasional pinging, by backing off the timing some, then the SC tuner will help up to ~13max hp, max.
With my 01 4.7, manual, some mods, I maxed at 8.
With a very objective set of dyno sessions also, using nearly identical conditions.
8hp and about 8ftlbs, max. Got mine for $200.
WITHOUT the SuperChip, my dak was
218 RWHP; 292 RW ft/lbs--REAR WHEEL, NO SC'S
Good luck.

Message: So far I'm lovin the superchips Ive gone toe to toe with a 325 BMW up too about 120km/hr,then had to slow due to trafic ( I know it's a smaller beemer but I thought it was alright concidering the look of shock on his face). I've got a set of lights near my house, 2 lanes, runs for 1/8 mile and then changes to single. A guy in a honda accord pulled from behind when the lights were changing he was already moving at 30-40 kms when the light changed I hit it from dead stop I pulled even buy the end of first then hit second and flew up too 5700 or so rpms and he was toast by at least 2 car lengths. I just thought I'd share If anyone cares. I don't even know if these cars are fast, but it felt good.

Message: So, would I be correct in saying that if I was using the 87 octane program, I probably wouldn't see a whole lot of performance gain but I would see crisper shifting patterns and maybe a little gain in mid range?

Message: I felt the gains as soon as i had it installed with the 87 program. Unfortunatly I only ran 87 for a couple of days, then went to 91. I didn't notice a huge difference off the line but by the top of first into second and up I noticed a significant difference esp at full throttle. I can deffinatly feel a boost in hp that dakota's are otherwise lacking. Try it, you'll like it, most people do. GraphiteDak is only running 87.
