Message: I have a Magnaflow muffler (stock piping) on my 4.7 and LOVE it. No droning, resonance or anything. Nice low rumble when cruising and a hell of a bark when I get on it.
I've heard a few Flowmasters that were to raspy for my tastes...
The only way you will know which is for you is to listen to them in person.

Message: NEITHER-personally I like glass/steel paks as:
1-are cheaper. 2-sound better(per pref) 3-will FLOW better as NO baffling to disrupt exhaust pulse, which scavenges CYL, which will allow less diluted fuel/air charge, which WILL create more HP on SAME amount of fuel-ie-MORE POWER, & MORE MPG! Have 3 Gpaks-1just after 3rd cat, & then split to duals, with tailpipe paks on ea side spare. YOu can ad or subtract to create sound you like best-at $15-30 per G'pak. Goodluk

Message: ah the never ending "my exhaust sounds better" battle. it really is up to your own personal liking. i think that my flowmaster sounds great myself. its all up to you. the one thing that we all agree on is that a higher flowing exhaust will give you more power and mpg. well and that dakotas rule!!!

Message: flowmaster super 40 and if you what the American muscle sound there is nothing like it. if you have the 318 it sound mean at idle. it doesn't resonate bad at all at cursing speed and i just put on the muffle with out it running out the back.

Message: my stock muffler outperformed flowmaster 40 series by a tenth in the 1/8th, then I went with a warlock (which can be uncapped) extremely loud but performance better than stock. Setup now is ceramic coated headers stock pipes and a borla with a turn down great performance, sounds wicked with the kenne bell at wot and sweet at cruising rpm.

Message: here we go again,
Show us a dyno graph, with the only change, or nearly the only change, was a 'cat-back'. And then show us what, if any RWHP, or Tq, it gained.
I sure haven't seen them all, but I have seen some that lost a little, by just using the cat back.
And I know about you have to do this, and that, as in intakes (which is another matter all together) but show us anything, objective, that shows any gain. Consistent 1/4 runs are one way, with the same conditions pre and post cat back, but that's still not really objective.
It does sound different though.

Message: Flowmasters have the distinctive idle and rumble.
They are LOUDER at idle and low RPM's. But never BARK as loud as glass packs or a MagnaFlow (overpriced glass pack).
That's my .02
I was thinking of running duals with glass packs next. Headers would go in with two cats then two glass packs. I also like the sound of glass packs IF they have pipe after them. If they are dumped, they sound like sh*t under the cab!

Message: I've had Flowmaster always on my Mustangs and nothing sounds as good.
BUT...
I've had three Dakotas, One with Flowmaster, One with Borla, and now my '05 with Magnaflow.
I prefer the Magnaflow. It isn't as loud as the Flowmaster at Idle, but it sounds great when on the throttle.
Just my opinion.

Message: i prefer magnaflow over flowmaster just because of the sound. magnaflow has a straigh through design while flowmaster has a baffles to dampen sound. but i heard that flowmaster and magnaflow are made by the same company.
