Message: Well, that's interesting. My truck was originally my brother's, and he had the factory cat put on for $750 parts and labor. It sounds really deep and throaty, great power, and gets 21 mpg highway. I guess your experience may vary.

Message: I had my third cat relocated to a dumpster at a muffler shop.
$30, all is still well about a year and a half later.
01, 4.7, QC, manual tranny(thank God)
The third cat has no sensors fore or aft, so it makes no difference in anything about how the motor runs.
It apparently was for the start up gasses, before the engine reached operating temp.
Louder, a little throaty, still quiet in the SLT cab.

Message: "amazing, you got ripped son." NO, if you read the post, you'd see that my *brother* got ripped. He owned it at the time. And yes, all 3 Dodge dealers in Jacksonville, FL have ripped him off at various times. It's why he sold me the truck and bought an Avalanche.

Ignorance. Catcons are not just for 'start up gasses'. Originally, catcons were for reducing HC emissions. Now, the 3-way catcons also reduce CO and NOx emissions. So you're helping to make Texas smoggier. Good job.

Message: Im going to agree with bob. Despite what everyone says cats SHOULD NOT restrict flow. If you want something that will flow better get a high flow cat... it wont make much difference but at least ull pass most inspections. Everytime i inspect a car without a cat, by law I HAVE to fail it. usually that includes a hefty fine(depending on where u live). Still its kind of fun to make the ricers pay for their stupidity some times :-p

Message: Bob,
You do understand that I STILL have the precats, one on each header, with sensors fore and aft, Right?
I'm ecologically minded to a degree, wind power only racing catamaran, etc. I don't think I'm doing the Lone Star State a disservice.
Skat...,
I've passed emissions twice now, I don't know anyone that works there, it just passes, from a reputable, strict shop.
When it was cut off, I looked in the end of it, it had a fine mesh screen, kinda like the old 'spark arrestors' they put on off road bikes to reduce forestfires-as if!
That screen has to restrict flow SOME.
Only wished I'd have dynoed BEFORE it was cut off!

Message: Scott,
I have the same setup that you have. I replaced mine with a universal CATCO unit. I did a custom install when I put on my flowmaster catback. After the install, I had to rewire the rear o2 sensor to not throw a code. The CATCO was basically a shell with a piece of wire mesh at each end. I could look right through it.
I wired a resistor and capacitor into the wiring for the rear o2 sensor and have been running over a year and a half without a problem.
There are lots of posts on how do wire them in. I am at work so I dont really have time to find you a reference.
