A 4800 RPM redline shift is not bad at all on these trucks. You can saftley go up to 5200.

An over rev would not cause a lifter problem. It is probbaly a broken valve spring or even worse a messed up rocker arm.

So the fact that they haven't changed their oil in 30,000 (mi/km?) is not a big deal?

HaHa, I just noticed that...I hope he meant 3000 miles not 30,000. That would be very bad.

It.s called the rev limiter and it depends on what RPM it's bouncing off. And please change your oil so I can sleep tonight.

Dude u have to be stoned.....u haven't changed ur oil for 30,000 - maybe 3000? and if u havne't ur just high. U can't abuse ur truck and not take care of it and expect it to last. Anyways with the 318 can u chirp them going into 3rd cuz I read that somewhere and that would be amusing cuz I can burn them just a little (little more than a chirp) going into second with this beastly V6 I have Really would enjoy a 318 as the next engine mod.

Mikes99Dakota: now that I think about it you are probally right. When I had a broken spring on my old chevy it was a knock, missfire, grinding, and some other wierd sounds too. Maybe the lifter was going bad anyways and they over rev just finished the job.
