Message: I've seen far more trouble with the S10 and TrailBlazer (2 different platforms) than I have with any Dakota. That's not to say that the Dakota doesn't have trouble. Looking at TSBs on the Dakota, none of what Don'tBuyPete has much merrit except maybe for the brake rotors and the ball joints.
The rotors can warp easier than some, and the ball joints are replaced by Chrysler for free. NOt all trucks are affected by the rotors though, so it's hard to say if that's a product of driving too aggressively, or just some faulty rotors.
Look at Toyota (tacoma and t100) though- breaking ball joints and sheering steering rods. '94 to present recalled for these issues.
And if you say the Toyota is a POS you're a fool.
Way too high priced for quality? I got my Dakota for about 4k less than a similarly equiped Toyota, about the same as the Ford, and slightly higher than what an S10 would have cost me.
Rims/wheels can be solved with the Tire and Handling package- the 16" alloys look good, and the cornering performance is excellent. If you say the Dakota can't corner, you haven't driven one lately. It's one of the nicest riding and smoothest handling trucks on the road. And I've had the opertunity to drive a lot of different customer vehicles.
There's nothign especially wrong with the Tires either. I don't care for the Wrangler ATs that came on my truck, because of wet weather traction, but otherwise they're great tires. We put them on a customer's ranger, and they lasted for 55k miles. Unfortunately that means I'm stuck with them for a while, but the good side is my tire expenses will be fairly low for the life of the truck.
And there's nothing wrong with the cat, brake pads, or brake drums. I've never even heard that one used before. Must've made it up like you made up everything else about the truck.
Dakotas are heavy, there's no getting around that. My Dakota is about as heavy as a Ford F150, but so what? They can work like nobody's business. I guess dragging the extra ass around slows 'em down some, but the V8 more than makes up for that.
I admit, there are minor annoying cheap things on the truck, but that's a matter of minor significance. Like the glovebox is too damn small, the seat has no memory latch, and the mould marks on the steering wheel irk me slightly. Otherwise that's nothing especially low quality about the truck. It's built well enough.

Message: I think, as seen in another thread, Pete was turned down from a Dodge Dealer and had to leave without his Dak.
That's why it's his purpose to spoil it for the other people.
Maybe if KIA makes a truck soon, Pete will be able to have one.

Message: Who's the brainless clown knocking my truck? I own a 98 Dak with a mag v6. She's coming up on 220000 km and has danced thru 14 ALBERTA WINTERS with a smile on her face...All I've done is replace the tailpipe and given her regular oil changes. Until you understand the subject matter, you'd be well-advised to keep your meaningless 'opinion' to yourself.

Message: I cleaned some of the nonsense up for you, Graham.
You certainly got a good truck there. Mine has been good just like yours. My brother got a new one back in 1997 and he had to get rid of it after a couple years. He had problems right from the start.
