Message: Ok guys,......I need some thoughts, opinions, and hard numbers here!
My truck: 04 Dak CC 4.7L v-8, 5 spd auto, 230 hp/292ftlbs torque
My buddy's truck: 05 Tacoma, quad cab, v-6, auto,
245hp/284 ftlbs torque
He brags about a magazine article that states his truck does 0-60 in 6.8 seconds.
Both trucks are stock. I would be willing to run them at a local strip but he never has the time.
Guys,the obvious question here is:
Who would you place your money on?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Message: Forget the race. Each of you pull a 18' boat behind you and see who makes it "up the hill" first.
Trucks (with the exception of Truck Series Racing) were made for hauling. What's the fascination with racing other people with your truck (not just you personally Matt), just everyone in general who posts about doing it.
Don't take it the wrong way. I'm not flaming you, but I guess I don't understand the need for it. The 4.7 Dak has more than enough power for blowing by someone when passing them on the road and also for accelerating into traffic. Once someone starts "dogging" their truck, something breaks then they start bitching about Dodge not building quality vehicles (or any manufacturer from that aspect).
That's just my opinion and I know it will differ from others. My truck is a 2001 and I don't want to race it. I want it to last about 10 years minimum.

Message: Actually I agree with you on all counts.
I love my truck's acceleration! I've never tried lighting up the tires and I don't want to race it either. An engine under stress is rarely a good thing. But you probably know how it is,.....you're talking with your buddy and he's running his mouth, etc.
That's why I'd like to hear about some real numbers that I could simply throw at him.
Thanks,
Matt

Message: No problem Matt...understand.
I'd throw the "towing" aspect out to him as well and see what he has to say. My guess is he won't want to see if he can "out tow" you.
It's kind funny though; when you challenge people who brag like you say your buddy did and throw out the "put up or shut up" challenge, they usually to the latter.

Message: Well for the enlightenment of this conversation, I will guess that the Taco is S/C right?
If you feather the clutch right with out spinning much and hit every gear at about 5200-5300 rpms, you should take his aZZ!
But its a drivers race really and his TaCo is prolly pretty quick for the rpms he can turn as well, but for low-end grunt you got him good.

Message: Mikes99Dakota, How do you "feather the clutch" on an automatic?
According to the Toyota web site, the 4.0L in the Tacoma is not supercharged and rated at 236 hp @ 5200 rpm and 266 lb.-ft. @ 4000 rpm.
I think you can take him, but it would be close.
Good luck!

Message: N/M Gary F,
I read wrong I saw 5 speed........didnt see the auto till now. And for some reason I was thinking of the S/C Nissan truck. They are quick but nah.
You should take him, just watch those back wheels from getting out from under you...hehe
