Message: I have a new 2001 standard cab 2WD Dodge Dakota (Motorsport edition) with the 4.7L engine and 5 speed tranny. I had a SpinTech "Sportsman SUV" #5334 muffler installed today. Muffler is 2.5" ID and OD and mounts easily in-place of the factory muffler using the same hangers and such that the stock inlet pipe and tail pipe can be reused. Sound quality is pretty good... it's fairly quiet at idle and cruise but you get a nice, deep mellow tone that let's you know you have a V-8 when accelerating. Can't tell if there's been an improvement in performance but it sure sounds better.

Message: DMSDAK,
I saw a black one this weekend when I was picking up my new 4x4 QC. The motorsport edition looked pretty sweet. Hope you get much enjoyment out of yours.

My truck is also flame red. I live in SE Ohio and did a dealer search to find a 4.7L/5 speed Motorsport edition with a 40/20/40 bench seat. Couldn't find one in this region... found my truck at a rural Georgia dealership near Augusta and picked it up last week. I think I got a decent deal... paid $100 over invoice less the $2,000 Dodge rebate. A dealer in Charlotte, NC had a black Motorsport edition but it had bucket seats.
I'm extremely pleased with this truck... the 4.7L/5-speed combo in a 2WD standard cab really flies. I had a 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cab 4 x 4 with the 5.3L engine and can say that this Dakota is a lot more fun to drive and a whole lot quicker.
Unfortunately, my truck doesn't have a limited slip rearend but I am thinking about installing a PowerTrax "No-slip" unit which is pretty easy to install since the carrier and pinion don't have to be removed. I am going to stay with the 3.55 ratio... it's fine for me. I also plan to add a rear sway bar and possibly a new air intake and throttle body system if I can get some solid testimonials on which combinations work best.
SpinTech's website is... www.spintechmufflers.com.
I ordered a "Sportsman SUV" model with 2.5" inlet and outlet, offset on both ends. It cost $99.00 plus shipping. Local muffler shop charged me $40.00 to install including a new chrome tip. I kept the stock tailpipe so I woundn't reduce backpressure and loose low end torque.

Message: Hey thanks for the reply chardway, my truck has the 3.92 posi or limited slip I guess, and I also have the 40/20/40 I guess you would say bench seat the two 40's move independent of the middle seat as in my Durango. But This truck is a blast to drive I know what you mean I just happend upon mine it was at a Dealership called Auto World, a big Dodge dealer in Big Stone Gap, Va. I was actually going to buy a new Stratus R/T and well I seen the truck and test drove it and fell inlove. I hope to talk Dad into letting me put a louder muffler on most likely the SpinTech, and some sort of Cold Air setup and thats about as far as Im gonna go for modds at this time, Oh I found out that they come in three colors, Silver, Black, and Red. Thank you!
