Subject: V6 POWER! IP: Logged
Message: Wow this didn't work out too well. First time I hauled anything in the back (Camping stuff). Weighed it before I went over the mountains, 5400lbs. Well it kinda pissed the engine off. Kinda sad putting it into 3rd gear passing someone on a hill. They're steap hills but still. Wish I could've added a couple more cylinders to it. Now after this trip my truck keeps cutting out. Dunno if it's back firing or missing. Sounds like it's in the Cat. Dunno if that's possible but since I got the new muffler seems like my Cat has been starting to crap out on me. Any ideas?

Message: You neglected to mention which engine is in your truck. One thing I would check before guessing expensive hardware is for evidence of detonation- cracked insulators on your spark plugs. If you run regular grade fuel in your truck, and you're pushing it in high altitude conditions while towing you can run into detonation. You could try running premium gas in it a couple of days before beating the snot out of it towing a big load.
Do you have a check engine light lit? What year is this truck? These answers will help in diagnosing your problem.

Message: '00 CC Sport 3.9 4WD. I checked my wires and they all look good. Cap and Rotor are brand new so I'm gonna check my plugs tomorrow. I'm getting the MSD Blaster SS Coil and Taylor 8mm wires soon so hopefully some of that will help.

Message: I would try disconnecting the battery and draining all the power out of the system before reconnecting it. Could just be something small with the computer. If that doesn't work, try getting a timing light on it and see if the timing is off... That's all I could think of right now.

Message: If muffler is too " free flowing "
and cat is aged = may not be able to do it's job properly !
However , if this is the case , computer should be throwing codes ??

Message: Just remember the truck isn't going to run too good after disconnecting the battery. It'll take probably 20-30 minutes of normal driving for it to run properly.
Checking timing is wise, but unlikely to be the actual cause of your problem. Were you running you truck low on fuel on these hills? You could have damaged your fuel pump, or sucked some crud into the fuel filter or sock.
Does it always run like crap, or is it only when it's hot, or cold. Under what throttle conditions does it run like crap? That could also be helpful info.

Message: I was never below 1/4 tank when i was out in the hills. It just started as soon as we left. Going over the pass it continued to get worse. Now it does it but not quite as bad. It's only ran really crappy when It's been on for a while but its hard for me to test that right now because work is only 4 miles away and takes me about 8 minutes to get there. This weekend if it continues to do this I will have more information. I just got my Taylor 8mm wires and MSD Blaster SS Coil so I doubt that fixed it but if it did great but I'll know it's not my wires or coil and my cap is fine and my rotor should be too since I just replaced them maybe a couple months ago. Cat is probably the original and I just got my muffler 3-4 weeks ago and this is the first I've had problems. Every now and then I can smell it though. Started that as soon as I got my new muffler. Also it only does this when I'm giving it quite a bit of throttle. It's also done it under normal driving too.

Message: Adam: didn't you put on a v8 tb on your truck as well, i seem to remember you saying that in an earlier post, maybe that is the problem, maybe a sensor was bad on it or incorrect installation
My truck looks like it was in a knife fight, and lost! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/1275365

Message: I would have said TPS, but since the problem occurs throughout the RPM range I kind of doubt it.
You might check Mass Airflow sensor. Is it possible you have an incorrectly installed gasket on the new throttle body? It's easy to break the gasket on installation for most cars anyway.
Good luck.

Message: Craig, our trucks don't use mass flow sensor. they use MAP (manifold absolute Pressure) sensor. could be a problem or the vacuum fitting that connects it to the TB.

Message: Well I got my new MSD SS Blaster Coil and my Taylor Wires and I no longer have the backfiring. Even up to 5 grand I don't have any kind of sputter. Guess it was a bad coil or maybe a rogue wire.
