By setting you mean what exactly. I also have a 97 5.2L with the hypertech programmer and correct me if im wrong but the only options you have are the fuel setting (octance), RPM adjustment (i would recommend +500), top speed adjustment, and also tire size. The octane you have to program to the correct setting or you will have a pinging sound which is detonation. The top speed i believe you can go with 116 or 128 maybe. If the tire size is already set correctly the RPM, speed indicator, and octance setting should be your only choices.

I PUT 93 OCTANE AND 126 TOP SPEED, BUT I KEEP GETTING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR THE FUEL AND AIR MIXTURE. IT IS SENDING TO MUCH FUEL AND NOT ENOUGH AIR. WHAT DOES SETTING THE RPM AT 500 DO FOR YOU. CAN YOU TELL THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE.

The +500 is simply a rev limiter it allows the engine to produce more rpm's before shifting

I've got the PP III also. I've got mine set for the max speed,RPM and 92octane setting. I run 87 octane all the time and have never heard the slightest detonation once.Heck my wife's 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 limited needs 93 octane or better or it sounds like diesel.Makes me wonder if it actually advanced my timing?
