Subject: Getting 97 4WD trans. to shift harder IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1997 dodge dakota that has a 4 speed automatic 4WD transmission. I was curious if anybody in here new a trick into making it shift quicker / harder?

Message: Most people will say a shift kit is the way to go. I would have to agree. There are a few different kits for these tranny’s and I’m sure there are quite a few reputable mechanics that would be willing to install it if you don’t feel capable.
However, if you are looking for just a little extra kick without spending anything, you can adjust your TV cable. This adjustment will raise your line pressure and increase shift points. It will also affect the speed at which the tranny locks up.
To make the adjustment, find where the cable is mounted near your throttle body. Mark the clip position before you make adjustment. Move the clip so that the cable slack is decreased. Only move it one position at a time. Drive it for a few days and notice the difference before making another change. There is such thing as going to far. Remember, this is for fine tuning, not hardcore racing adjustment. For that, you need the shift kit.
