"I just added a 6 inch exhaust tip to my 96 dakota with a 318 and it added at least one million horsepower. I also added one of those autozone sticker packages but only gained like 100 thousand HP from that. I dont really recomend those to anyone."
This is how bad the ricers are acutally getting in my town. I hope natural selection takes them out when they go race through my 25 MPH nieghborhood

That's hilarious..it's getting bad here, too. What's sad is I live in Idaho which is the last place I'd expect that kind of crap to become popular.

I actually saw a Saab the other night that was riced. It had a cheesy spoiler and a huge coffee can muffler. I swear the outlet was at least 4" in diameter. It sounded like a normal exhaust with lots of holes, and could barely get out of its own way.

Ricers were getting bad in PA when I left a few months ago for Arizona. Stupid people think a cofee can muffler can make their car fast. I'd say about 90% of the ricers out there are just a bunch of decals pasted onto POS old civics. The other 10% though, watch out. I had a friend with a civic that was in the 9s- 1/4 mile too! On the outside, it was a '96 civic, very little different about the exterior (except the tremendous intercooler you would notice around where the front air dam should have been) Of course the fact that he had numerous sponsors and a highly illegal japanese built motor, and ran 20+ psi of boost through it didn't hurt!
Had a car in my dad's shop that was the ultimate in rice crusher, although it wasn't a Dakota. It was an '85 Buick Regal. I would say it was 500+ horsepower, big turbo, alcohol injected, fuel cell, driveshaft catcher, 4.11 gears, race built hydromatic 400, etc etc. It was not an impressive car, but man it ran good. It was ripping solid 10s in the quarter when I last saw it. Go sleepers, go!

Today I saw a ford escort that was spray painted black, had a spoiler that was about 3 feet tall, 17 inch rims that were at least a grand, and a chrome muffler (fart can) out the back. I was laughing my a$$ off at it, then I turned my radio down to hear it and the kid that was driving it was jamming to the Spice Girls. I almost pissed myself.

NC they are everywhere! not only are they annoying and slow, the girls down here think its hot when some prik pulls up in a 01 honda civic that sounds like a pissed off bumble bee...they are stealing our women now! i miss the good ole days when muscle car guys got their due respect from the ladies...now you CAN pick up chicks in an economy car! just rip the exhaust out of it!

Most of those kids with imports are ricers. Those other 10% wouldnt be considered ricers. I have respect for anyone that can make a car fast. On those 10 second imports you dont see fart cans. Or 19 inch rims, or 10 subs in the back seat. I used to have a 1992 240SX, sr20det at 16#. I sold that car and bought my dak and will never regret it. I just love the sound of my 318.

Here's one for ya. A mazda protege station wagon that is totaly tricked out frat can to 17 inch wheels. This guy brought it to our shop to take the Zex nitrous kit off because the blew up the plastic intake. His next stop was the dealership. BTW, the kit was set up for a 55hp shot.
The next day a guy comes in and say's he wants to put a cam in his mazda protege because THE CIVICS ARE KILLING HIM. We tried to sell him the nitrous kit.
This is the kind of ricer crap we put up with in S.C.

Mopar318, funny you had a 240 with a 2.0 in it. My bro in law had his bro in law's over last week. We took it to the track after some bugs were worked out.
It has the 2.4 removed and a 2.0 in there running a big a$$ turbo. While it's sort of a rattle trap, it halls a$$ when that turbo spools!
My favorite ricer to LAUGH at. This guy lived about 2 miles from me. I used to see it every day.
But this is kind of worse...
Of course, this is CERTAINLY rice!
Being that a 1982 S-10 should not be desicrating the HEMI RAM RUMBLE BEE decal!

what gets me the most is the is the friggin airplane wings they put on the back of there cars. last time i checked, they were all fwd. maybe we should tell them to put there wings on the hood and it might actually be functional then.

Somone oghta take that 'bee off that chevy. I think it says a lot about ricers in general- most of them don't even know what the hell they're talking about. Then you have The Fast and the Furious. To say that a TOYOTA SUPRA can even drive on the same street as a tricked out 900 HP dodge Charger is just ridiculous. Another nice touch in the Fast and the Furious if anybody here saw it- the Charger is an AUTO, not an manual. If you look closely there's no clutch pedal when you see Vin Diesel pull one of those amazingly BAD shifts.
You look at the friggen fart cans and you have to wonder how much horspower is just going out the tailpipe. If you can hear the fart, it means the combustion is still occuring when the eshaust valve is open...
These damn kids will never learn. I'm glad to be in AZ though- my high school has much better taste in cars. There's like 1 or 2 ricers in the parking lot, the rest are pickups of one form or another. Or jeeps- jeeps are cool here too.

Simply installing one of those devices will not alter your engine's ignition timing, as implied by the quoted statement.
The can makes that sound because it resonates. Exhaust pulse amount and duration, size and length of exhaust pipe between the engine and fartcan (scavenging), engine RPM are all contributing factors to the sound.
There's some real-world physics at work here, folks.
Too bad it's so irritating.
But good for a laugh now and then, eh?

another correction for you craig. the charger had a ratchet style aut shifter in it. these are fun to drive with because it is just like driving a manual or column shifting an auto. you move through the gears by bumping it forward or backwards depending on if you would like to go up or down a gear. i have driven an 72 camaro ss 427 with a ratchet shifted auto. man that was fun. b&M and hurst both make these. i wonder if they made one that would work with our trucks.
