Save money. I use amsoil and it is cheaper. One oil change using dino was $25 every 3k miles. Now with amsoil I spend $45 every 10k miles and could go longer since it is rated 25k miles or 1 yr. You can see that I save money on oil changes. $75 for dino and $45 for amsoil.

Why don't you figure it out yourself. Amsoil states that you can go 3 times your drain interval using Amsoil. What are you paying now ($_.00 x 3 oil changes = $_.__) and then compare that to one amsoil oil change ($45.00 x 1 = $45.00) over the same miles. And you would save more if you changed at 10k or 15k miles and amsoil is rated for 25k miles so you could save more.

That is your upfront savings.

Save gas. America uses over 100 billion gallons of gasoline each year just for passenger cars and trucks. 100 million gallons x the 4.5% increased mpg means that we would save 4.5 billions of gas each year.

That is the environmental savings (just in america).

Save your truck. The Amsoil guy said that if u use synthetic oil you will have "lower oil consumption, lengthened drain periods, increased parts life, longer overhaul life or reduced maintenance costs."

That is your long term savings (truck lasts longer).

Save money and save oil. Save gas. Save truck.

Frank

If the engine is working at it's peak with less friction, drag, etc. it is operating more efficiently. It is using it's fuel more economically which translates into better mpg.

Kinda different but the bottom line is the same.

That means you were either spending nearly $5 a quart for dino, having someone do it for you or spending more on the filter than the oil.

I change the oil and filter every 5k and it runs about $12 per. I can even have it done for less than $25. My Dodge Caravan has 196k, Ford Probe has 198k, Dodge Stratus and Dakota both have about 65k. None of them have had a lick of engine work on them and I'm probably a bit harder than average on them.

Is "Steve" Mr. A.S.S.?

I plugged in Amsoil dealer and it returned hundreds of sites by people doing nothing more than trying to get you to become a dealer. Not a dealer for Amsoil but a dealer for them, one of their so-called sales group. Only a tiny portion of these sites are directed towards the sale of Amsoil products.

In the real world most products have a limited number of people involved between the manufacturer and the time it reaches the consumer. With Amsoil the number seems to be potentially infinate with dealers who have sub-dealers, who have other sub-dealers, who have other sub-dealers, who have other sub-dealers, who have other sub-dealers, who have other sub-dealers, who have other sub-dealers, who have other sub-dealers, ect.

Now most people refer to that as a pyramid but if you ask an Amsoil dealer they will use the phrase Multi Level Marketing which should more accurately be referred to as Ulimited Level Marketing.

Dealers are taught how to handle the allegation of pyramiding by directing you to the quality of their product which doesn't do a thing for addressing the high cost of the product much of which goes to supporting the pyramid.

I don't actually think there is anything wrong with the product. I don't think it is anything special either. In my opinion it is over hyped. You need to pay careful attention to the Amsoil claims and be especially careful when reading
the information provided by the distributors (as opposed to Amsoil Inc.).

Do you realize that the XL7500 oil is just a highly refined group III petroleum based oil and not a synthetic oil in the same way that Mobil 1 is a synthetic oil? The XL7500 is the same sort of synthetic as Catrol Syntec, just a lot more
expensive. I can't see any reason to prefer the Amsoil product over Syntec if you are following the vehicle manufacturer's maintenance schedule.

If you want to maintain your new car warranty you need to follow the vehicle manufacturers maintenance schedule, no matter what you think Amsoil is saying about extended drain intervals. After the vehicle is out of warranty it is your
money, so you can go to the extended drain intervals.

Personally I think most US car makers specify oil change intervals that are far too conservative. Basically the same engines running similar oils have much longer oil change
intervals in Europe. I still do my Ford changes at 3000 miles, but I doubt it is necessary.

Now will Amsoil warrantee your car if you don't adher to the manufacturers recommended oil changes? If you have a problem can you just the the dealer that Amsoil said it was ok to change your oil once a year?

Here's Amsoil claim - "Extending motor oil drain intervals does not void new vehicle warranties. To affect vehicle warranty, the oil must be directly responsible for the engine
failure. If the oil didn’t cause the problem, the warranty cannot be voided, regardless of brand or length of time in use.
"

Guess who decides the issue. Here's a clue, it won't be Amsoil and it won't be you. Amsoil is not going to be standing at your side in court as you explain why you followed Amsoil recommendation and not that of the manufacturer.
