Summit racing has 4 sets of 4.10s for the 9.25.
Richmond Gear $187.95
Richmond Gear lightened 6lb $247.95
Superior Axle and Gear $255.69
Motive Gear $199.95

Does anybody know the pros/cons of these gears. Do lightened gears really make a difference for $68 more

Lightened rind and pinion? Not sure if I'd trust that unless I had proof it was as durable!

So how much more do they want for the install kit (Shims, crush sleeve)?

they want $120 for the big richmond kit but i dont see any reason for that. I only have 20,000 miles. Superior Axle and Gear basic kit is $38. If anybody has any suggestions as where to buy or which gears are best im open. Keep in mind they will be taking some nitrous abuse :)

Oh. Does the bigger kit have carrier bearings or something?

I'd just want the pinion bearing and carrier shims.
I could find gear marking compound around here I'm sure.

$38 kit Includes Seal,Gasket, Pinion Shims and Crush Collar
$120 has Cover gasket, ring gear bolts and washers, crush sleeve, marking compound and brush, pinion and carrier bearings, pinion nut and washer, pinion seal, thread locking compound, silicone sealer, and pinion & carrier shims.

Not sure what you would need half that crap for unless you rear end is already half way trashed.

Well, the carrier bearings in our rears have a reputation for failing sometime after 80,000 miles; so I opted to change mine while the gears were being changed. I'd rather play it safe than have to deal with failed bearings and the damage they could cause later. The choice is yours.

Thats something to think about. but i will prob be getting a hemi ram in the next few years "already have 8g's saved for it" so i doubt ill ever go over 50,000 miles in this truck. I only drive 9-10k a year. I cant believe Ive had this truck for over 2 years. I usually get bored of my vehicles and buy something else. This is my 10th vehicle since i was 18 and im 25 now. lol

Wow. The bearings in the mighty 9.25 rear fail that fast???

That sucks. Rears usually last way longer than that unless the gear oil leaks out!

Unless that was the 8.25 or whatever the older Daks had that wore out so quickly.

Just curious but where did you get the 80,000 mile failure theory
from. I dont mean to sound like an @$$ by questioning you but I
have searched for like 30 mins trying to find any data to suguest
that these bearing are junk.

I believe something similar has been posted on this site by others; and I was also told that by the rear end specialist who installed my gears. Many go much longer than that with no problems, but Ive heard that's the weak point in our rears; and yes, including the 9.25. So it seemed like a good idea to me to have them replaced while the rear was open. That said, I've personally heard of more Chevys having rearend problems than mopars, and Fords seem plagued by all sorts of problems. Keep the faith !

"Ford" and "rear end failures" USUALLY don't go in the same sentance if you are talking about the old 9", 8.8", 7.5". They are thought to be the best out there.

I was putting over 300 HP through a Ford 7.5" and it was fine! :)

I sure hope this 9.25 holds on for a long time. I've changed my fluid once per the schedule. Next time I'll do Amsoil. Most likely when I change gears and add LSD.
One wheel wonder sucks.

Referring to Fords in general, not the rears. Yeah, the 9" is pretty much accepted as the stock rear of choice for drags. But when working on the Emergency Service Patrol for the Mass Pike, I saw more new Fords disabled than anything else by a wide margin.

I would go with the Supiorior Gears. They have a great rep for being strong. Get them thru 4wheel parts. They will beat any body elses price.

is it www.4wheelparts.com you are talking about. If so i cant find
superior gears on their site. I am going to replace the carrier
bearings since i found them for really cheap. basic install kit +
autozone carrior bearings = $55
