Subject: 99 4x4 Clutch Fan HELP!!!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
I attempted to install a electric fan this weekend and now are stuck. Got everything wried up and ready to go, but can't figure
out how to stop the pulley from turning when trying to take off that big nut.

I have searched all of the boards and read about it but still cant figure it out. There are four holes in the pulley but they are too close to the nut it self to fit a screw driver in there.

Please help as I am without a ride until i get it fixed.

thanks!

stuckwithouta, What state and city are you in? I am in the bay area in N.California. I built a tool just for this pulley. It's a piece of 3/8" x2"x24" steel with three 1/4" screws in the pattern of the pulley holes. It works great.

I used a 1/4" bolt .... had to cut it to length so I could get the maximum amount of the bolt thru the pulley hole ........ turn the pulley until the bolt hits on the water pump body and then back the nut off that secures the fan assy.

When we took the fan clutch off my truck, we just put a big wrench on it, and hit it with a big hammer.

u can pick up a strap wrench from sears to put on the pulley so that it doesn't turn then put a 12" crescent on the nut give a couple of whacks with a hammer and off comes the fan.
