Message: cuz if the truck is cold then it means its overfilled. if the truck is hot then it is not overfilled , when you overfill your powersteering fluid it can cause damage to your pump, just like your engine.

a reservoir slightly over filled or even way over filled does not in any way effect the pump it is connected with. The only thing that will happen is the thing will spill some oil on the road, thats right oil, as ALL hydraulic fluids in cars are oil derived, on the road as you drive.

Message: Yeah, I'm gonna have to call BS on this one, too. Never heard of any such thing in all the years I've been doing this. Although I have to admit I've never checked hot vs. cold. And I've never seen any recommendations to do so. Which means it really doesn't matter.

Message: Over fill you tranny sometime and see how that pump likes it. Over fill your engine oil sometime. After all these are only reservoirs and extra "oil derived" fluids will merely spill unto the the road.

Message: No worries.
But the power steering system is not analogous to tranny or engine.
The reservoir is part of the fluid loop, but it's on the return side of the steering gear and the pressure is very low. Overfill may cause spillage when the fluid gets hot, that's true. Underfill is the killer, though, because the pump may suck air, which is not good for the pump.
Consider the reservoir as a holding tank for "make-up" fluid, and an expansion chamber for hot oil.
A more correct analogy is the engine coolant overflow bottle - same function, same purpose.
