I just got back from watching the Dukes of Hazard. While at first I was bummed to see them screw up some of the original scheme of things (Daisy being a BRUNETTE with brains) and the General Lee's doors being WELDED, it turned out to be pretty bad a$$!

Lots and lots of driving that I grew up copy catting in my days (when I lived in the sticks with more dirt roads than asphault). Drifting, jumping sheet, and DRAGGING something behind the car with a chain. Been there, done that many times.

As in all movies like this, Starsky and Hutch, etc. I come out all hopped up like a mad man. And so did about 20 other freaks as they jumped into their rides in the parking lot.

Then some dip stick in what looked to be a V6 Mustang was more crazy than me. Actually driving stupid, passing people in the suicide lane (twice) and I finally wound up beside him a few miles later and showed him why he "shoulda got a V8" in that Mustang!

Then some other dill holes tried to race me. But all stupid FWD cars. The wife was getting annoyed a little but that's what happens when you watch a cool movie like that :)

I told her to let me build a Duster for a Hot Rod and I'll mellow out (a little) in my truck.

Superbee. Yeah in the first 30 min or so they were getting in and out using the doors except when in a hurry when Luke would jump in head first into the passenger side as they were being chased. Daisy got in using the door.

But after something happens to the General and Cooter "fixes" it the doors are stuck. As if he forgot to FIX them.

Lacent. Yeah Pantera will do that to you every time! The latest in my mp3 playlist is Soil, Killswitch Engage, Black Sabbath (live), and some other stuff. The wife goes insane sometimes. But I notice after a while her and the kids get hooked into a few of the songs. Caught the 10 yr old singing lines from Killswitch Engage and my favorite trick is to pause it real fast to hear her singing. She gets mad at me!

I can't stand that Hip Hop sheet they try to listen to sometimes. I guess being a little bit of a musician and liking music really turns you away from 100% fake and produced bullsheet!

Anyway. Yeah. Sometimes some of them songs get you going especially if it's one of those days in traffic :)

Well not having grown up watching Dukes of Hazzard, I didn't think it was that bad, but have heard it was nothing like the original. About the doors. I noticed the same thing, but cooter said he didn't have enough time to fix everything, refering to the doors. Did anyone notice the AMSOIL sign on the bales of straw during the ralley? It was a brief moment, but saw that and wanted to point it out.

Matt

The original was a made for TV series and by today's standards it's probably pretty hokey with lousy acting but some fairly good humor. All that is pretty easy to for 30 minutes or so along with the commericals. Now take that and make a movie with all those qualities, or in this case, less quality and you have a pretty lousy movie.

The fastest car must have been either the Caddy or the cop cars because they all easily caught up to the Duke's General Lee and in the case of the cop cars, passed them up. What's up with that???

Even Cooter pulled off what Boyd Coddington couldn't do in week. He rebuilt the General Lee overnight. Ok, maybe it was supposed to be some sort of stupid joke but I don't think the audience laughed, it just went right over their heads.

The timeline was laughable. They chase all over the place, run a race, presumably win it, and then head into town avoiding cops by jumping a ramp that changes shape from scene to scene. Heck they don't even try to hide this from the audience. How dimwitted do think we are? Anyway, in the maintime you have a judge sitting around thru this entire timeline presumably waiting for the appropriate time for this hearing to start or end.

Yes. the plot was screwy. Cooter fixing the General overnight was B.S. And how Cooter decided to paint the confederate flag on the roof and the Duke Boys not knowing about it (until they met up with some angry Brotha's about it in the city) was way off original concept as well.

I liked the movie just because of all the cool driving on them dirt roads and watching the General Lee again. I grew up driving in the mountains and drove like that all the time. Drifting turns on dirt roads, jumping the car (only to some extent). One time I bent the frame of a car after catching 3 feet of air and coming down on one wheel! I almost FLIPPED the car. The General Lee could never survive one jump of what they have in the show. And it doesn't. That show finished off most of the Dodge Chargers back in the late 70's early 80's. And that movie probably trashed 100 more!

Oh yeah. It got a HEMI from Cooter this time when he was fixing it overnight. Nice conversion overnight to drop in a 426 (I assume) Hemi!

I think I was informed that the original was just a 383 BB :p
And the original didn't even always have LSD. I remember watching one wheel in the gravel spin in the TV show.

The driving was maybe a C+ and even chase scenes in old shows like Bullit were better than that. Maybe that's because much of it was real and not poorly computerized fakery.

They had a "world premiere" of sorts at the newest Regal Cinema last Tuesday here in Knoxville, Tenn. (Regal headquarters are here). "Johnny Knoxville", Jennifer Simpson, and that other Duke actor were here for a children's charity/ fundraiser/ showing. Pretty good turnout; funny thing, no "critique" in the media about the movie. I guess they didn't want to step on any toes. I haven't seen it yet, but plan to. For several years, there was a local guy who showed up at Mopar car shows with a RV trailer/museum of Dukes of Hazzard TV stuff. I asked him once about how many B-body Dodge Chargers were totalled in the course of the show. 685 altogether. I also asked him about the stuntman who died back then. He told me that a stuntman jumped a ditch, and belly-pan crashed on the other side. In a communication mixup, a second car in a second take was sent to leap the same ditch. The stuntman was killed when the second car landed on top of him. The guy that had the rolling museum hooked up with Ben Gray (the TV "Cooter", and opened the Dukes museum in Gatlinburg a couple of years ago. Bristol Dragway has an annual "Dukefest" every June or July. "Hazzard", of course, was coined from Hazard, Kentucky by the original movie writer. The Dodge Charger was chosen because of Richard Petty's dominance of NASCAR in the early 70's. The TV Chargers were all painted by Californian Eddie Paul. Someone once asked him if it bothered him if the cars were totalled while the paint was still wet. He said no, that he had pictures of every one of them anyway. Every drivetrain was used in the course of show, including Slant Sixes! One car made TV WITHOUT an engine; the unmanned car that had 400 pounds of lead in the trunk to keep the nose up when it was catapulted over some railroad cars.

That's some cool information. Finally SoMEONE who paied more attention to the Dukes than myself :)

I always liked the show. And yes. No computerized effects in that movie. Just like in the show, you could tell that car was totalled so many times upon landing. But they cut to another scene where the car just skips along and is just fine aside form some scratches, broken mirrors, etc.

The parts i hate in movies including this one was shooting a can of gasoline and it EXPLODES! That doesn't happen.
And neither do cars that catch fire. they BURN. They don't explode.

it was the nascar race at indianapolis last weekend. it was called the brickyard 400 in years past but this year they called it the allstate 400 at the brickyard and indianapolis motor speedway is nicknamed the brickyard b/c the finish line is a brick path.
And after watching those movies you will probably want to go horse around a bit. I know i did!!
