Subject: Intake box baffles? IP: Logged
Message: I read on a post once that said if you grind down the baffled plastic pieces in the bottem of the stock air intake box with a dremal tool, you could gain a few HP. Is this true?, or should I not waste my time.

Message: I'm wondering the same thing myself. Id like some more HP but here in michigan i can't do a cold air intake because of the winter, And i don't have time to swap it out each season.....I can't find anything around here for the 2004, 3.7 litre auto, QC.....I'd like to keep it inexpensive what ever i do, kinda like in the old days when we we used to flip our air cleaner cover to get more air flow

Message: Not a positive answer here but....
The k&n fipk adds a few horsepower. The is not even a box it is a smooth tube with a filter on it. The factory air box is just that...a box. If you get rid of the baffles it probably wouldn't smooth out the air flow going through your filter...thus wouldn't add horsepower (or enough to notice any kind of difference.
But like I said it's not a positive answer just my opinion.

Message: Hey instead of taking all that time grinding out baffels, why not just fill them in and smooth out with lightweigth epoxy resin? A lot faster, and easier. If you have ever worked with certain types of epoxy you would know how smooth you can get it.

Message: Those are not baffels they are support ribs as to keep the box from flexing too much.
I used fiber glass to simply cover the ribs. You will need to drill holes in the bottom for H2O drainage.

Message: As GGalarmtec stated, their sole purpose is structural.
They're insignificant. Not worth dinkin' with.
Spend your time and money between the air filter and intake manifold.
