I have an 2004 QC 4x4 4.7. I had the 3:55's and 32's on the truck and figured Id get it re geared and see how it was. Well, YAHHOOO!!! Best mod I have done!! For those of you considering the change, Do it! Its what the Dakota should have had from the factory!!

Ba$tard. I planned on swapping in 4.10's last winter. But it never happened. Still got 3.55's.
Got other things to pay for and will be tough slipping that one by the wife :p
The recent Superchips purchase almost got me into trouble. But since she bought a $350 PURSE a few months back I used that one over her!

You just have to "break it" or "wear it out".
Gosh darn cheap azz 3.55 gears wore out already, better put in some 4.10's and a LSD so they don't wear out so quickly this time... LOL

GD, I made a deal with the girl. I'll get rid of the cycle as long as I can do whatever I want to the truck, LOL. The bike was gonna get me in trouble or hurt anyway. $350.00 for a purse, eh. Sick isnt it? My gal has different purses for each time of the year. Every time she gets a new purse, I get a new mod. Shes lookin at an "ugh" or something like that and its a few bills, SO, Im getting a new exhaust!!!

They are 10 and 8. ANd the wife, even blonde, is not always a sucker. I WISH she was as dumb as a stick. She doesn't really approve of me modding unbroken things on the Dak as it is. And if something's broke, it IS still under warranty :)
Like I said. My only time to "pull the wool down..." is when I find out she bought a purse for over $300 large! WTF??? She's got a stack of purses and SHOES. EVery damn time we go by a shoe section she wants to look!
Then to get her back I drag her into Fru's electronics :) It's hard to leave that place without dropping $300 large...
Too bad my Dak is not my only hobbie. So my $$$ gets spread out on different things.

"As far as gearing goes, if you have a 4.10 rearend and 265/70 R 16 tires (31 x 10.43 x 16), changing to 290/70 R 16's (32 x 11.42 x 16's) would be the same as if you kept your current wheels and tires but changed your rearend gears to 3.92's."
So 32" tires with 4.10 gears is the same as 31" tires with 3.92 gears.
You did good!

I had 4WheelParts install the gears. They have the best reputation in Az.. I paid $1365.04 for everything. The front gears are Genuine Gear, and the rears are Supirior Gear. I also had them replace the front drive shaft seals because I had a leak in on the Passenger side. It was replaced once under warranty, but it failed again in only 6 months, so I figured Id pay to have someone fix it who knows HOW to fix it.

The actual size of my tires are 31.4". They are considdered 32's, so Im a little "over geared" than the 3:92's and 31" combo. 31" tires actually mesure arround 30.5".

That tire calculator interpreted 32x11.5x16 as P-Metric size 292/70 R16, and only does its comparisons with P-Metric numbers. I just rounded it to 290/70 R16 in my post.

Thanks for the info...I figured it would be around $1000 for the 4.10's. I may use 4WheelParts myself, they are close to where i live.

as soon as money permits...I have a 65 Mustang that has been soaking up all my funds. Also I may go with 4.37s or 4.56s because I know I will be putting larger tires in the future. I can't believe my truck came stock with 245/70/16 tires..they look like cookie cutters. Here's a picture of my mustang that i am fixing up.

Sounds good can't wait to install my 9.25 with 4.10s lsd. By the sounds of it i got a steal on it :), paid 200 for it from a 02 dak, less then 10k on the gears they look mint

Thats not a bad deal. My rear gears were $266.00, and they are Supirior Gear gears. The reason it was $$$$ for my truck is because it is a 4x4 so I have to do the front AND back, and I had the seals replaced and all new bearings installed.

Oh wait. DUH!!! i guess I needed to read it different.

yeah. I did that too.
My tires are 255/65 16's BTW. Same height as stock but MORE meat :)
After I do a gear swap I may jump up one size next time. Now that I have a SuperChips programmer, I can adjust tire changes myself for the speedo.
