Subject: jet throttle body spacer IP: Logged
Message: i'm ONLY asking about the jet tb spacer, does anyone have any experience with it??
i'm not sold on the "swirling" effect of the power aid tb spacer.
but the jet seems like more of a real world design. it raises the ve of the intake manifold, and increases the intake charge velocity.
again, i'm NOT asking about any tb spacer other than the jet!!!
Thanks in advance,
stinger

Message: I have not seen any data at all that proves the TB spacer theory on a fuel injected engine. You are better off porting your TB for better flow.

Message: not really grumpy, i'm asking ONLY about the jet spacer.
and further more, i'm only looking for someone who has actual experience with the jet spacer and NOT simply somone's "expert opinion"
i've done extensive searching on this site, but found that 99.9% of the info was regarding the power aid spacer and not the jet.

Message: For what it's worth, I was watching "2 Guys' Garage" the other day, and they were installing headers, a TB spacer (not sure who made it but it wasn't a Power Aid) and a cold air intake on a late 90's S-10.
They dyno'd the truck before and then after each and every mod and the spacer made 19ftlb's of torque and 10hp at the wheels through out the entire rpm range.
So, this doesn't answer the question about the Jet spacer, but it does prove that a spacer does infact work on a EFI motor.
I'm also curious if anybody that has actually USED the Jet spacer will post their results.

Message: I got one for Christmas last year as a gift from someone who knew I had a Dakota. Since I had a few mods done to the truck, I wanted to get a dyno anyways, so I went with the spacer in hand. I got 3 pulls for $50 and so I went at it. I have quite a few mods (homebrew intake, Fastman TB, HO Cams, Superchips, True Dual Exhaust, 180* T-stat, relocat IAT, etc.) and decided to test out the spacer. The first pull was to test the mods on premium gas at the highest Superchips setting. The second, I put on the spacer and ran it again. The third, I took the spacer off and did a control test run.
All the numbers were indistinguishable from eachother. They were all copies, and the spacer did nothing.
Return the spacer and ask for your money back. The purpose of a spacer is to increase the distance between a Carb and the combustion chamber for better fuel/air mixture. The Dakotas DON'T HAVE CARBS! By putting on the spacer, you are just lengthening the "straw" through which your truck must breathe.
If you want to see performance gains on the intake side, get a better filter, better intake, larger TB, better Cams, Superchips, or a super/turbo charger. Otherwise, you can help your engine work better by making it run a little cooler, get a better spark, timing it better, easing up the restrictions on the exhaust side, or giving it a little better gas.

Message: Thank you Opie, that is what I believe what stinger was after.
And Grumpy, if you have first hand experience with the Jet spacer like Opie does, than maybe you should have stated that, rather than a quick, 1 line smarty pants answer.
Here's how this site works:
Joe has a question, so he looks at alot of back posts' on his question. He now has read for 2-3 hours on how the power aid spacer doesn't do squat on our beer barrel intakes.
So when someone else asks about tb spacers in a month, Joe now post's a reply on just how lame tb spacers are......That's NOT an expert opinion.
That's what I believe stinger was after with his original post.
Again thanks to Opie

Stinger, quit looking for an excuse to buy one.
Wait! You already did! Now you're trying to find that odd someone who will make you feel better by saying you didn't really waste your money, so you can justify the purchase in your own mind, and finally get some sleep at night.
Spacers, no matter who makes them, add NOTHING to our sequential, multi-port fuel injected (EFI) engines.
If you knew about sequential, multi-port fuel injected engines, then you too would know that spacers (at the throttle body) don't pass the common sense test.
If that late 90's S-10 had throttle body injection (also EFI), then any spacer would certainly have caused a change in HP/torque.
And I've seen that guy from the Garage show hawking Turbonators, too. As an alleged "master mechanic," he should know better.

No way! That's funny. If I ever see that show on, I'll remember to turn the channel!

Couldn't have said it better myself. What so many people forget is that once the camera breaks, anything can happen when the cameras are off. That's also what the editing room is for. On that S-10, they could very easily have given false or relaxed inputs to the dyno to show increases. Or, simply make another pass while cameras are off and claim it was the throttle body spacer which did it. You know they get a lot of money from sponsors to mention their names and use their products.
I bet when the cameras break, these guys walk off and others come in to do the dirty work, like rebuilding the motors. Then, these guys go fishing.

Message: If that Two Guys Garage show wanted to do the viewers a service, they would tell us those Tornado thingies only work if they're installed after the fuel is added to the incoming air. Which means downstream of throttle body fuel injection or carburetor.
But no, they gotta pander to the advertizers and sponsors. They try to get gullible people like the now-missing Stinger, who started this thread, to buy things needlessly just to increase their sponsor's bottom line.
Credibility check: Fail

Message: That is crazy. Of similar nature my Uncle works for this company who does custom home remodeling.
They got on that show DIY. "Do It Yourself - To the rescue" where the TV show goes and remodels homes that need a make over, etc.
Anyway. He told me when it was on so I could record it and make him a DVD of it. Which I did last year.
I watched it and my uncle and the co he works for were in a few shots. But this team consisting of some guy and this woman who did MOST of the talking were posed as if they were knowledgable and showing the viewers how to do these things.
I asked my uncle about that glass wall thingie she was doing in the bathroom. He said them were "eye candy" actors and after they shot the sections of the girl laying the glass block thingies and describing how to do it, my uncle had to tear it down and start over. then later in the episode it shows the finished product as if that chick did it LOL!!!!

Message: Are all you guys that say: "Spacers don't do crap because they only effect the incoming air and not the air/fuel mixture, because it's an EFI engine"....Are you the same guy's that start threads on the "S-Bolt" and "torque steps"???????
We buy Fastman TB's, we port and remove the torque steps from our stock TB's, we buy flat TB hold down bolts, and we spend hours making the ever so popular S-Bolt mod.
ALL OF WHICH EFFECTS THE AIR FLOW BEFORE ANY FUEL IS ADDED.
Everyone praises those mods because someone once said they work, and that spreads like wild fire among the brainless sheep. (ie; Autolite 3923's)
But yet installing a TB spacer can in no way work?????????????????????
Everybody repeat after me: "Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Baaaaaaaaaaa, Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa."
