Subject: Tranny swap questions... IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking at swapping out the auto tranny in my truck for a tough 5-speed manual. It would be more fun than the auto, would be more durable, and I would have more control over tire-spin when I'm off-roading. Also, the stock 4-speed auto transmission probably isn't the most durable, and I wanted to know what would be a good 5-speed manual and how much it would cost. Thanks.
BTW: It's a 1997 SLT CC 318ci 4x4.

Message: I guess it would depend a lot on how you're planning on using the truck. Since yours is a 4x4, I can't see any reason why you shouldn't consider the NV3500 5-spd. It definately has "truck" gear ratios, and would likely be the easiest to swap in.
I have a 4x2 4.7, and since my needs lean more toward road-racing, autocrossing, and general hot-rodding, I'm going with the Tremec TKO500 - complete with the swap-kit from Keisler, which includes the bellhousing, pedal assy, flywheel, hydraulic system, clutch, etc.
Installation started last night, and so far I've got around $4500.00 into it. It might seem like a lotta dough, but everything is brand-new, it's Tremec quality, and it has the sports-car gearing that I lust for.
