Damn Guys, we need to get bout 10 people to to go in on a superchips tuner for gen II daks, then tune our trucks and resell it. We could probably get all but $20 back of what we paid.

You can only tune one truck per unit.

Unless you have a friend at Superchips they will only reset the unit so it can work on another truck if you have a sales receipt from an AUTHORIZED reseller, not Joe Blow who got a group deal going. Been there, had that argument with them.

You can use it and reset it yourself, as many times as you like. You reset it by removing the program from the vehicle in which you installed it. It can only be used on ONE vehicle at a time. To understand how it works, just download the manual from their site.

Ditto N56629, I concur, I have 2 Daks, 4.7's and one tunner, I just put which ever ones tuned back to stock and then program the other. No problem.

So if I understand this concept, we buy a Superchips tuner, use it on our Daks to improve performance, then reinstall the stock program on our trucks, and sell the tuner at a $20.00 loss? I'm certainly not the sharpest sword in the scabbard, but something seems amiss here...

No, "we" is not an option. You install it on your truck and that's it, period. You can then remove the program and install it on another truck. You can not install it on all your buddies trucks at the same time.

Think of it like a single dollar bill. You give me that dollar and I write you an IOU. You can not give that same dollar to each of your friends. When I give you the dollar back you can then give it to one of your friends.

I must warn you, unlike the dollar, you can not give each of your friends one quarter of the SuperChips program.

Thats a big 10-4 N56629, he don't get it.

Oldmandak, you buy it, use it and keep it, period. BUT, If for some reason you don't want to use it anymore, you reset your truck to stock, then you can sell it and it then can be used by another owner.

i think he gets it, but he's willing to program his truck and then sell a superchip off to someone (scam) that has already written out its program.

Technically speaking, the only reason I can think of for the Tuners to work this way is if the tuner box is storing the stock programming. This would seem to be a pretty lame excuse to me, since memory cards / memory sticks are so inexpensive.

So to me it just seems like "one-vehicle-at-a-time" is just a way for the Tuner companies to get more money out of your pocket. I don't object to them trying, I just object to paying . . . ;^)

That's pretty much the idea, Larry. I'm sure Microsoft wishes they could do the same thing. I'm surprised that there isn't more competition out there but market is probably pretty small.

IMO I thought of two other legal options that might be worthwhile to use the superchips. The first is not to buy it at the price and email as a group to let the company know that the price is too high. The other is to contact the company and ask for a group discount (aka dealer discount). Most items like this have a pretty high margin built in. Has anyone tried this already? I would be willing to send an email if the group decide to.

Does anybody know what the hp and torque gains using a superchips tuner?

Like someone mentioned earlier, they need some competition to bring the price down a bit.

I would buy one if you got a group discount. There are other types of the tuner you can buy, but superchips seems to give the best results.

At $300 to $400 per vehicle, I not especially interested in a SuperChips tuner. (Especilly, since my perception is that the real performance gains require 91 octane fuel). But I know I'm not the "typical user" they're trying to marketing to . . .

Since we're a "multi-dakota" family, I might be what you would call a causual user -- willing to purchase a tuner "just to fool around". I would even be willing to pay more money if it would allow me to program multiple vehicles. And I would probably be willing to pay even more money (say up to $1000) for a "general purpose ECM programming syste" -- something that would plug into a laptop and allow we to program multiple vehilcles and "tweek" the various params.

But as I say, I'm know I'm not the "typical user".

Well, Larry, I'll have one that you can try out very soon. Maybe we can reverse engineer it. For $250 it's worth playing around with it for awhile.
