Message: I was reading about the 206 cams for the 4.7 on the KRC website and it stated that the truck had an increase of 36hp and 66 lb torque with the cams AND a computer flash.
What i am trying to figure out is how similar the gains would be without the flash. What about if the cams were combined with a Superchips?
My truck only has intake and cat-back.
Thanks

Message: The superchips tuner was designed to work best with a bone stock dakota. So pretty much a stock dak will see more HP out of it then a cam'd up dak or highly modded dak. I do have the HO cams and i did notice a pretty good difference when I added the superchips tuner on the 93 oct program. On many of the other boards, the KRCperformance guys recommend running the superchips tuner with their cams.

Message: I have a hard time believing the superchips tuner works best with a stock Dak. A mod such as a flash or chip that adds extra ignition advance should also be at least as helpful to an engine that has been modified in other ways. Just because you've increased flow through your engine doesn't mean it shouldn't respond as well to more ignition advance; that just doesn't make any sense.
Unlike some of the flashes though, the superchip doesn't say how much advance you get. That makes it tough to do a comparison without testing.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: The superchip most likely gives 4 degrees of timing across the board, just like hypertech, jet and others. There's alot of hype out there in the magazines and some of the companies actual dyno results with their products. I can get the same results(4 more degrees of timing) by doing the crankshaft sensor mod for free.

Message: hey thanks for the replies! I have been wanting to either get the chip or cams and I am still trying to decide. Of course the 206 cams are $700 which is hefty compared to the superchips or the HO cams but the gains seem to be real.

Message: spali;
Please elaborate on acvancing the timing with the crank sensor. I have an '02 4.7 w/ Mopar HO cams and if I could advance it maybe 2º to play with it some.
Does it really help much? I'd really like to get a little more spunk up top to help passing (kinda drags arse at high RPM 2nd gear) but extra power anywhere never hurts. :)
