Message: Yes the 360 would bolt in the same...but you need to add/change some of the parts. Like the flexplate out of 360, 360 pcm for your year of truck..and other stuff. The tranny question I am unfamiliar with. Do a search on past threads for this subject. There is lots of information.

Message: If going carb, you don't need to change the computer. The 727 will work fine. You will need to modify the tranny mount, since the tailshaft is slightly shorter than the overdrive models...and that also means you'd need a driveshaft about 2 inches longer. You have no speed sensors in the 727, so if you want a functional speedo, you'd need an adapter box to read off the speedo drive in the tranny and convert the readings to an electronic signal. There are a couple on the market. Mopar Performance has a book on crate motor installations....see manciniracing.com
You'll also need a non-computerized ignition system....often used is the Mopar Performance electronic ignition kit (also at mancini), and it includes info on how to bypass the AutoShutDown relay when you do this swap (you're just splicing a couple wires).
Since you have no fuel return line, you'll either need to plumb one in, or use an external fuel pump for carburetor use. You stock pump puts out way too much pressure to run straight in. You need a fuel pressure regulator to continue using the stock pump.
A very do-able swap, done many times. It sounds worse than it is.

Message: IF your going to set it up for drag racing you can get rid of the gas tank and install a fuel cell in the be with an electric pump. The fuel cells aren't too expensive, i have a 22 gallon RCI fuel cell mounted in the bed of my dak, i cut a hole in the bed for the fuel cell sump and have a Holly Black pump down on the frame.

Message: Well since you just going to use it for drag racing you ever thought about installing a Lenco tranny?
