I've just purchased a V8's throttle body cable for my '98 V6 RC 5spd. Week after next if not sooner I'll be combing junk yards for wrecked V8 Dakotas (with a heavy heart) in search of a V8 tbi. My question is, does anyone have any specific guidelines on how I should grind it down to improve its airflow? I know I could just go buy one already ported and polished (and better, since I will just be grinding but keeping the original butterflies & diameter therefore), but I think there's something neat about doing it myself. I'm thinking it's as simple as taking off everything on top but the four guideposts and rounding the drops into the two barrels, but figured I should ask in case there were some better or more detailed ideas out there. Also, does anyone know the diameter of the twin bores in the stock V8 tbi (since it'll stay the same on mine) and/or their potential CFM? What's the diameter of the V6's? And any ideas how much oomph I'll be gaining? I'm also running a K&N cool air for the 318/360 and MSD Superconductors and, by then, Accel coil, rotor & cap. -tk

I have a picture of the TB from my Durango which I ported myself. Not too hard although it is not exactly like a Fastman, etc, it didn't cost me anything but time.

Most people can do the basic mods to the throttle bodies by hand. But remember, one wrong cut, grind, or slip and you'll either have to send the TB out to one of the TB Modifiers (Flometrics, Fastman, Highes, Magnum Performnace) or you'll have to trash it for a new one.

Mark Kuzia also has a good page for the "Home-Brew" TB Modifications:
