Message: What are the advantages to a catback system? Alot of people seem to like them. What is the hype/ appeal about?

Message: They are all for sound and show. If you want a performance gain re-do the crappy small Y pipe and do a mufflers swap.

Message: Catbacks offer a minimal gain. Anything you can do to increase intake air, or exhaust gases will help. The exhaust gases do have a point that too easy of flowing will become detrimental. The problem with a catback system is that it only replaces about half the exhaust system. You still have the enhaust manifold, Y pipe and cat that may limit the flow. But a catback can make yout truck sound really mean.
