Message: i've had a cold air intake for quite some time now. however it brings in under hood air. i'd like some outside air. anyone know a good brand that will get some regular outside air coming into the engine. this would be greatly appreciated. even some ideas on piping in cold air but a good aftermarket cold air intake would be better.

Message: I'v looked at a few of them. Not overly impressed. I think with a little imagination and a few trips to Home Depot, you can do a good job yourself.

Message: Yeah...
I just went out to look at that. I think that the filter can be enclosed in dryer hose and attached either under or next to the TCM. The hose, being flexible, can make the squeeze. (I have not given it much thought...
Doing this, though, would mean that the filter would get dirty faster, wouldn't it? I mean, if I ram the air in from the grille, wouldn't more dust, water, snow, etc.. get forced into the intake? Would a pre-filter defeat the purpose of a CAI?

Message: Jason,
Hello, if your intake sucks in air from under the hood,
It's NOT a Cold air intake, it's just not a stock intake. Did you know that the 4.7, has probably one of the best free flowing, cold air intakes?
The air from the fender well comes from the cowl at the base of the windshield.
Yes, I do have a home brew on mine, that I call a 'true' cold air intake, (CAI). Cause it's got an insulating wall keeping the engine compartment air out. Does it help? Don't have a before and after dyno under the same conditions with my intake alone.

Message: If you want to be that picky you don't have a cold air intake...you have a "closer to ambient air temperature" intake.
"Cold" is a relative, read "non scientific" term that doesn't quantify or qualify the air entering your engine.

Message: If you want "cold air" move to Minnesota. I figure we must pump out at least an extra 15-20hp with all the "cold air" we take in.
